Discover Northern Okinawa’s Natural Treasures
Made up of 3 villages, Okinawa’s northern region, locally known as Yambaru, is well-known for its abundance of forested hills and endemic wildlife. Embark on a bus tour to discover this slice of nature, accompanied by a tour conductor and a multilingual automatic audio guide.
What You’ll See
First up is a visit to the Yanbaru Forest visitor center, where you can learn more about the nature surrounding you through a visual presentation. After the early morning exploration, a set meal of sashimi platter and fried local fish awaits at Kunigami Village.
After lunch, the tour heads to Cape Hedo, a spot that offers magnificent ocean views. On clear days, the distant Yoron Island becomes visible, providing a wonderful photo opportunity. Next up is Daisekirinzan, a region of Yambaru National Park easily identified by its jagged limestone cliffs. Considered a sacred place since ancient times, Daisekirinzan is also a famous spot where you can feel in tune with nature. There are 4 hiking paths to choose from, one of them being an easy, barrier-free walk. You will also see some rare subtropical plants and peculiar boulders that are rare in other parts of the world.
Next, explore and shop for juices, cakes, and other souvenirs at the Ogimi Shikuwasa-Park. Finally, enjoy a stroll at the Kouri Beach and feast on subtropical fruits and vegetables from local markets. As a parting gift, you will receive a local specialty product to serve as a tangible memory of your journey.
