Getting started

Begin your experience with hotel pickup from Mount Cook Village before heading to the airport. Check in at the designated meeting point and allow at least 45 minutes for the safety briefing and to be fitted with your glacier hiking equipment. Once ready, board your helicopter for the flight over Tasman Glacier.

What to expect

Scenic helicopter flight: Fly from Mount Cook Airport over Tasman Glacier Lake, glacier ice formations, and the surrounding landscapes of Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park.

Glacier landing: Land directly on the Tasman Glacier and step onto its icy terrain, surrounded by the peaks of the Southern Alps.

2-hour glacier hike: Explore the glacier on foot with a professional guide. The terrain is surprisingly undulating, offering changing views of ice formations, snow, and surrounding peaks.

Mount Cook & Mount Tasman: Hike beneath Aoraki/Mount Cook and Mount Tasman, with panoramic views of New Zealand's highest peaks throughout your experience.

Hochstetter Icefall: On the return flight, fly close to the immense Hochstetter Icefall on the eastern face of Aoraki, rising around 1,000 meters above the glacier.

Glacier equipment: Stay equipped throughout the hike with glacier boots and ice crampons, plus a waterproof jacket if required.

Mount Cook Village transfers: Travel conveniently between your accommodation in Mount Cook Village and the airport with hotel pickup and drop-off included.

What to bring

What’s not allowed

Guests below 10 and over 150kg are not permitted on this experience.
