    Begin at the main entrance, where your ticket is validated and you’ll receive a brief orientation on spa etiquette and area access. Follow posted signs to the changing areas, then choose your first zone—swimsuit or traditional hot spring.

    Hakone Kowakien Yunessun

    Located 600 meters above sea level in Hakone, this expansive spa blends playful themed baths with authentic Japanese hot spring traditions. The facility is divided into two distinct areas: YUNESSUN (swimsuit required) and Mori no Yu (traditional onsen).

    Features

    • YUNESSUN Area: Explore indoor and outdoor pools, including the Aegean Sea of Gods, cave baths, and Dragon’s Waterfall. Themed baths feature wine, coffee, green tea, and sake (note: do not drink the bath liquids).

    • Family-Friendly Pools: Kids can enjoy BOXAPPY’s Jungle Gym and Splish-Splash pools, designed for safe water play.

    • Green Terrace: Relax in three unique baths and a Jacuzzi, with occasional special events and nighttime illumination for a vibrant atmosphere.

    • Mori no Yu Area: Experience traditional Japanese bathing in indoor and outdoor hot springs, pottery baths, and the cypress bath (female-only). Saunas are gender-specific, with dry and mist options.

    • Scenic Views: Open-air baths in Mori no Yu offer tranquil mountain vistas, especially beautiful in the evening.

    • Private Rooms: For guests with tattoos, private rooms in Mori no Yu are available by reservation.

    • Practical Notes: Outdoor hot springs in YUNESSUN close during winter. Towels are not permitted in baths, and some facilities have gender or age restrictions.

    Exclusions

    Dr. Fish foot bath is not included in general admission and requires a separate fee (minimum age: 3 years).

  • What to bring

    • Bring a valid photo ID to match the name on your booking if requested at the entrance.

    • Swimwear is required in the YUNESSUN area; bring your own or rent on site.

    • Bring your own towels or rent them at the facility, as towels are not allowed in the baths.

    • Consider bringing a change of clothes and toiletries for after your visit.

    What’s not allowed

    • Towels are not allowed in any of the baths, especially in the Mori no Yu area and cypress bath.

    • Drinking of bath liquids (wine, coffee, green tea, Japanese sake, etc.) is strictly prohibited.

    • Tattoos are not permitted in the Mori no Yu area, except in reserved private rooms with baths. Covered tattoos are allowed in the YUNESSUN area.

    • Large bags, outside food and drinks, and glass containers are not permitted inside the facility.

    • Pets are not allowed, except for registered service animals.

    • Children under 3 years old are not permitted in the Dr. Fish foot bath.

    Accessibility

    • Some baths and facilities are gender-specific (e.g., cypress bath for females, dry sauna for men, mist sauna for women).

    • The facility is not fully wheelchair accessible; certain areas and baths may have limited access for guests with mobility needs.

    • Accessible restrooms are available, but please check with staff for specific accessibility support.

    • The outdoor hot spring in the YUNESSUN area is closed during winter due to freezing temperatures.

    • The Dr. Fish foot bath is available for an additional fee and has a minimum age requirement of 3 years.

    • Private rooms with baths in the Mori no Yu area require advance reservation and may incur additional charges.
