The Obelisco stands 67.5 meters tall and was constructed in 1936 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Buenos Aires’ first foundation.

Its Mirador (observation deck) opened to the public in November 2025, allowing visitors inside for the first time in decades.

The monument is made of reinforced concrete faced with white stone from Córdoba, giving it its distinctive appearance.

There is only one public entrance to the Mirador, located on the Avenida Corrientes (west) side of the Obelisco.

The Mirador experience is compact: an elevator (with a capacity for four) and a spiral staircase lead to a glassed-in viewpoint with four windows.

Official Mirador Entrance (Avenida Corrientes Side)

This is the only public entrance for the Mirador, located on the west side of the Obelisco facing Avenida Corrientes at Plaza de la República. Look for staff and signage indicating 'Mirador del Obelisco.' Entry is step-free at street level, but please note that the internal ascent involves an elevator and a short spiral staircase, making the Mirador not wheelchair accessible as of December 2025. Staff will scan your digital ticket and guide you through security and elevator boarding. For external photo stops, the plaza is fully accessible.
