Marrakech Medina Self-Guided Audio Walk: Souks, Palaces and Secret Gardens

What to bring

• Ticket code: Enter your ticket code on the Roamer redemption page before you set off while you still have signal.
• Phone and earphones: Bring a fully charged phone and earphones to listen to the self-guided audio.
• Connectivity: Use mobile data if possible, or open the tour on Wi-Fi before starting if you do not have data.
• Sun and heat: Carry water and wear a hat, especially in warmer months, as there is little shade on parts of the route.

• Tour access: The tour opens in your phone browser and does not require any app download.
• Timing: You have lifetime access and can start any day, at any hour, and replay the tour.
• Best start time: Start around eight or nine in the morning to avoid heat and long palace queues.
• Duration: The walk takes about three hours at an easy pace, or most of a day if you visit several paid sites.
• Daylight advice: Walk the route in daylight, as the Cyber Parc at the end closes in the evening.
• Seasonal climate: Spring and autumn are most comfortable, and summer afternoons can be extremely hot.
• Friday closures: Expect many souks to close on Friday lunchtimes for prayers.
• Monument tickets: Museum and monument tickets are not included and are optional extras along the route.
• Monument access: Some monuments may have scaffolding or closed rooms due to the September 2023 earthquake.
• Monument info: Each ticketed stop's details card shows hours, a link to the official site, and map links.
• Mosque access: Non-Muslims cannot enter working mosques on this walk, but the Ben Youssef Madrasa is open to all.
• Route changes: If the street layout differs from your map, follow street signs and rejoin at the next stop.
• Traffic caution: Motorbikes and scooters share medina lanes, so walk at the side and listen for engines.
• Street safety: Keep your bag closed and your phone secured to avoid drive-by motorbike theft.
• Unofficial guides: Treat strangers who say roads are closed with caution and ask a nearby shop instead.
• Official guides: Recognise official guides by their badge if you decide to hire one.
• Tipping performers: Ask before photographing people, and expect to tip performers in Jemaa el-Fnaa.
• Road sections: Two stretches follow car traffic, so keep to the pavement and cross only at lights.
