I love being able to move about discreetly through a tourist sight at my own pace without having to join a group to learn a bit about the rich history of the place. The descriptions were long enough to enrich our travel experience without overwhelming us with too many facts and figures. We both felt that the descriptions were well-balanced and informative, giving enough detail to encourage further exploration in the areas that most interested us. Easy to book, smooth entry, and seamless transition to the actual Castle and Ramparts! The Castle itself is really nice. We opted for the extra audio tour after we arrvied which was worth the 4 euro pp - at least in the Castle section. Feel free to hop off of the Ramparts midway through if needed, especially if you are taking the tour during lunch time. Places in the city fill up fast and are only (usually) open from 12-2pm!

We really enjoyed the experience. The castle is amazing with its walls and state of conservation where you can appreciate the local investment for its maintenance. We are Spanish and the only thing you have to take into account is the temperature and the budget.

Booking worked out. The link to start the activity does not match the reality, the entrance to the castle is about 50 m away around the corner. Our ticket had a fixed time for entering, we showed up 30 minutes earlier, this was no problem. The tour is nice, the castle and the interior is in good shape, the walk around the town on the wall is amazing. All in all a must, if you are around Carcassone.

Admission was easy with the tickets ordered by appointment. It was probably less busy than normal the day before the free entry on Monument Day. We were able to enjoy the visit. Highly recommended: the audio guide. Great presentation with information and jokes, but informative, instructive and reasonably short.

The experience with headout was very good. The castle website did not sell tickets at the time we wanted and Headout did. But in the castle we could not visit the walls because nowhere did they warn us that at 18:00 they started to close it in pieces and when we had seen only a third of it they did not let us continue.

Carcassonne Castle offers free admission on select days, including the European Heritage Days on 20 & 21 September 2025, and on the first Sunday of January, February, March, November, and December.

To avoid large crowds at the entrance, it is recommended to arrive 1 hour after the monument opens.

The museum will remain closed for safety reasons.
