Getting started

Arrive at the depot at your scheduled time and complete the Railbike participant release of liability and assumption of risk agreement before receiving your boarding passes. After a brief safety orientation with your certified guide, put on a provided sanitized helmet or use your own. Then settle side-by-side on your Railbike and begin pedaling along the historic Skunk railroad route.

What to expect

Daytime Pudding Creek Railbike ride

Pedal through the Pudding Creek corridor during the day, following the historic Skunk railroad route from the coast to Glen Blair Junction. The low-exertion, recumbent ride takes about 30 minutes each way, giving you time to enjoy the Redwoods and surrounding forest at a relaxed pace.

Moonlight Railbike ride

Experience the same historic Pudding Creek route after dark on a Moonlight Railbike ride. Pedal through the Redwoods under the evening sky before stopping at Glen Blair Junction, where the forest setting takes on a quieter nighttime atmosphere.

Moonlit rail journey: Pedal through the Redwoods after dark for a different way to experience the historic Skunk railroad route.

Two-person ride: Share one side-by-side Railbike with a companion and enjoy the journey together at a relaxed pace.

Guided experience: A certified guide accompanies the group, leading you along the historic route and keeping the ride on schedule.

Glen Blair Bar stop: Take a break at Glen Blair Bar, where you can relax and unwind among the Redwoods before continuing your experience.

A different forest atmosphere: Trade the daytime scenery for a quieter evening setting as you pedal through the forest and spend time at Glen Blair Junction.

After your stop at Glen Blair Junction, return to your Railbike and follow your certified guide back along the historic Skunk railroad route. The experience ends back at the depot, where you can disembark and continue your plans independently.

What to bring

Water: Bring your own water, as it is not provided on the ride.

Footwear: Wear closed-toe shoes, as they are required for all riders.

Clothing: Wear casual sports attire, as this is recommended for comfort during the ride.

Helmet: Bring your own helmet if you prefer; otherwise, a sanitized helmet will be provided.

Child gear: Bring a front-facing carrier or car seat for any child under 3 years old.

Documents: Be prepared to fill out the Railbike participant release form before receiving boarding passes.

What’s not allowed

Lap seating: Do not plan for lap seating, as it is not allowed for any passenger.

Additional information

Age for seats: Ensure all seated passengers are at least 3 years old, since younger children cannot use seats.

Infants under 3: Children under 3 must ride in a front-facing carrier or their own car seat.

Single riders: Single riders must be at least 16 years old to operate a Railbike alone.

Weight limit: Each rider must not exceed the maximum weight of 250 pounds.

Physical ability: Riders should be able to bicycle recumbently for about 30 minutes at low exertion.

Arrival time: You must arrive at the depot at your scheduled arrival time to join your ride.

Weather: Trains and Railbikes operate in rain or shine, so dress appropriately for current conditions.

Getting wet: Expect to get wet while riding the Railbike and plan your clothing accordingly.

Dog trailer: A dog trailer is available for dogs up to 150 pounds, subject to a separate rental fee.

Health & safety: Social distancing and facial coverings may be required during certain periods; follow on-site guidance.
