We walked from Sintra town to the Pena Palace, it was a nice hike. The Pena Palace was beautiful, like a fairytale Palace. Then over to the Castle of the Moors, up a bunch ofcstairs and the view was fantastic. Actually views from both places were excellent. We enjoyed our excursion and head out made it very easy to book and follow directions. Thank you!

Die Besichtigung im Palast war sehr schön, jedoch sehr stark besucht und stressig durch die Security. Quinta war dafür sehr schön und magisch, kann ich sehr empfehlen.

This place, which I actually had never heard of before visiting Portugal, was an absolute pleasure and a "must see" for anyone visiting Lisbon. Just the trip up the hillside to the castle entrance, including a quick swing through the city of Sintra, was just beautiful. And the castle itself was breath taking. In addition, the logistics were easy to do. Our on-line ticket purchase the day before allowed us an early entry before the site became too crowded. We opted to walk up the hill (there is a shuttle for those who can' or don't wish to make the climb) and found the walk through the surrounding park to be wonderful. Arriving at the castle entry was easy and a self-guided tour allowed us to enjoy whatever aspects of the castle we wanted to see. Something we'd not seen before. Visitors can scan a QR code at the entrance (bring your mobile phone!) and download descriptions of each room, without having to fuss with the headsets and players typically in use. This made the excursion that more enjoyable. As mentioined, if you're in Lisbon, don't miss the chance to visit. It's important to do this with a tour bus or a private (tourguide) car. Parking in the area is nearly non-existent, and it's best to have someone else worry about transportation for you.

One of the highlights of my whole trip was the visit to Pena Palace. High up in the mountains, it really is a fairytale palace! I think the only downside is the communication conveyed. We are told to be there in ample time, we are told we can get a public transit bus from the station and they run every 10-15 minutes. What they don't tell you is that the public transit bus is not really that "public" as in they don't accept navegante cards nor do they sell single or return tickets and you must buy a whole day hop on hop off ticket. They also don't tell you that from the station it takes 40 minutes to get to the Park entrance. I nearly missed my timeslot despite giving it plenty of time. It would help others if these numbers are actually given with the directions. I thoroughly enjoyed my day though and think the bus was worth the €10.95.

headout is a great app, got me the tickets and kept mr notified, and the tickets were easily accessible in my email. Locations were clearly marked for gaining access to the mountaintop, we took a tuktuk up to the entrance of the castle trail. One thing that the park officials need to do is improve the signage in the area. There is literally not one single sign between the base of the Moorish trails to tell you how to get back down to Sintra. Once in Sintra, no signs for the Quinta de Regaleira! Fortunately we just kept following Google walking maps and got there. Got out my email from from headout and boom there's the tickets. Quinta de Regaleira was amazing and beautiful.

We had such a lovely experience at Pema Palace and Park in Sintra. The place has a peaceful, welcoming atmosphere, and the beautiful surroundings make it feel like a little escape from the busier parts of Sintra. What really stood out was the warmth and hospitality. Everything felt relaxed and genuine, and we enjoyed simply taking our time and soaking in the surroundings. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down, breathe, and enjoy the moment. A wonderful spot to visit if you’re in Sintra — highly recommended!

El viaje a Sintra fue cómodo, cogimos el tren en la estación de Rossio sin pérdida ya que Sintra es la última parada. Se coge el autobús 434 y te lleva hasta una plaza, desde allí puedes coger otro autocar que te lleva a la entrada del palacio o bien ir andando. La caminata es bonita entre arboledas y vegetación, tiene unas vistas espectaculares. Dura aproximadamente 10-15 minutos. Ah, todo es subida. El palacio precioso, parece el castillo de cuento de hadas

Pałac Pena dużo ciekawszy od Quinta da Regalaira. Uwaga na transport w Sintrze! Ci którzy chcą dojścia do atrakcji zrealizować piechotą muszą zarezerwować cały dzień - dużo stromych podejść, stosunkowo duże odległości. Poza tym jest kilka innych opcji. Oczywiście ja trafiłem na najdroższą i okazało się najgorszą. Lepiej sprawdzić opcje przed przyjazdem do Sintry.

Moorish Castle was absolutely amazing! I'm always blown away by the way they built complicated buildings without the technology that we have now! Prepare to climb up and down stairs. I believe we ended up with more than 20,000 steps the day we visited Sintra including the Moorish castle, Pena Palace and National Palace of Sintra. Mind blown!! 🤯

We begonnen de dag in Lissabon daar van daan met de trein naar Sintra. Pena palace kwamen we snel in omdat we al kaarten hadden gekocht. Een prachtig kasteel. Mooie uitzicht punten. En je kan een prachtige wandeling maken door het bos naar een kruis berg op maar de moeite waard! Ik zou dit zeker aanbevelen.

Visite molto emozionanti, personale più che disponibile. Sfortunatamente siamo arrivati in ritardo al palazzo nazional di Pena, e nonostante tutto ci hanno fatto entrare. I luoghi da visitare sono emozionanti, uniscono il concetto di natura a quello di storia.

What to bring

Moorish Castle

Make sure to wear sturdy walking shoes as you’ll encounter lots of uneven terrain inside the castle.

Mobile signal may be weak at the site; it's best to download your ticket via WiFi before your visit.

Pet dogs are welcome at the castle. Make sure to read these guidelines before bringing your pet dog along.

Pena Palace and Park

Make sure to wear comfortable shoes as exploring the palace will involve a considerable amount of walking.

Carry plenty of water, a hat, and sunscreen, especially when visiting during the summer.

Remember to bring a valid ID for ticket authentication.

Flash photography, tripods, and filming equipment are not allowed inside the exhibition spaces.

Pena Palace and Park

Pets are not allowed at the palace (except guide dogs)

Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the palace.

Avoid bringing any large bags or luggage as you can’t take them inside the palace.

Carrying drones and tripods is prohibited at the palace.

Accessibility

Moorish Castle

The experience is not fully wheelchair accessible due to uneven terrain and historic structures.

Certain areas of the castle are wheelchair accessible. These include the inner portions of the castle, the Moorish Castle Church, the store, and the cafeteria.

There is parking for disabled persons.

Pena Palace and Park

Wheelchair access is available, but certain areas might be tricky to navigate because of slopes and uneven terrain.

Guide dogs are welcome at the palace.

Moorish Castle

The audio tour is compatible only with Android (version 5.0 and later) and iOS (version 15.0 and later) smartphones. Private parking is otherwise not available. We’d recommend parking at the historic center of Sintra and relying on public transportation to reach the castle.

Make sure to bring a fully charged phone and your best earphones for a great experience.

Your selected time slot is for entry to Pena Palace. Since it’s about a 30-minute uphill walk from the park entrance to the palace, make sure to arrive early. Late arrivals may be denied entry.

Private vehicles are not permitted, so visitors should use pedestrian trails or public transport.

About 30 km from Lisbon, Pena Palace sits in Sintra, where parking is available in the historic center or outer lots, though spaces can be limited.
