On this tour, you will embark upon a path that is often missing from history books and bus routes. Stroll down the serene closes of the Royal Mile alongside a guide gifted with the art of storytelling. As you make your way through the cobbled alleyways of Canongate, you will hear of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite rising. You will also 'meet' the sickly poet, Robert Fergusson, who served as the primary inspiration to renowned Robert Burns. On this tour, you’ll discover that romance and intrigue cling to every little thing along the way, even in the architecture, literature, crime, and politics, to the very doorstep of the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
After Canongate, you can opt to enjoy free time to explore the stately Palace of Holyroodhouse, but not first without receiving a colorful introduction from your guide. Spend time marveling at the 14 magnificent state apartments and the romantic ruins of the 12th century Holyrood Abbey. The palace was the setting for many unfortunate events centered around the ill-fated Mary, Queen of Scots. Learn all this and more during your time here.
