Took my mom for this day tour and honestly, we had a BLAST! Our guide (Musa? I think?) was suuuper chatty and seemed to know every weird fact about Gobustan. My mom was obsessed with the petroglyphs, I just loved the mud volcanoes—never seen anything like it. Slight heads-up, our mini bus was kinda squishy but at least the AC worked. Lunch spot was meh but eh, you go for the views, not the food. They let us take tons of pics (except in the mosque, obvs). Would totally do it again, maybe in cooler weather!

We did the tour as a family with 2 kids (ages 11 and 8). Both were SOOO into the bubbling mud volcanoes, honestly they didn’t want to leave. Our guide, Elnur, was patient with all the questions and made history fun. The bus was a little old but clean. Only thing – the lunch break was late for the kids, so bring some extra food if ur traveling with little ones. Otherwise, totally recommend.

So I went solo and joined the tour group. Group was a bit big for my taste (like 15 ppl) but the guide was super patient with everyone. Petroglyphs at Gobustan were MIND-BLOWING, like you could almost touch history?? Mud volcanoes are a bumpy ride so if you get motion sick, beware! Also, bring snacks, the food is not that great. Still, worth it if you want to see a lot in a day.

Honestly wasn’t sure what to expect but this was such a FUN day. Went with my boyfriend, and we both loved the Lada ride to the mud volcanoes – SO wild haha. Our guide (can’t remember his name, sorry!!) told us cool stuff about Azerbaijan I’d never heard before. Got some cooool photos (not allowed inside the mosque tho). Bring sunscreen, it gets hot!

One of the best tours I've had in a while! Our guide, Emin, was so patient and funny. We were a mixed group (families, a couple, some solo travelers) and everyone got along. The highlight was definitely the Lada ride – it's bumpy but EPIC! Good tips from Emin about taking photos and avoiding the crowds. Would recommend to anyone visiting Baku.
  • Explore Gobustan National Park, the mud volcanoes, Ateshgah Fire Temple, and Yanardağ on a guided full-day tour, with an EZRaider ride and visits to Baku’s historic outskirts included.

    Getting started

Begin your full day tour by boarding your roundtrip transportation from Baku with your multilingual guide. After a brief introduction to the route and safety guidelines, you set off toward the Gobustan region. The first stage of the journey focuses on leaving the city behind and reaching the semi-desert landscapes that frame your later stops.

World’s first industrial oil well & Bibi-Heybat Mosque

    What to expect

Your first stops take you just outside Baku to two important landmarks tied to Azerbaijan’s oil history and spiritual heritage.

    Features

    • Visit the site of the world’s first industrially drilled oil well, a landmark that shaped Azerbaijan’s role in the global oil industry.

    • Stop at Bibi-Heybat Mosque, a reconstructed 13th-century mosque overlooking the Caspian coast, known for its striking architecture and cultural significance.

Gobustan National Park and rock art area

    What to expect

This section of the tour takes you into the Gobustan area, known for its rocky terrain and archaeological significance. You visit the Gobustan Rock Arts zone as one of the core outdoor stops on the route.

    Features

    • You walk among the rock formations where the Gobustan Rock Arts site is located, with time to observe the landscape and understand how this plateau connects to the wider semi-desert around Baku.

    • Your multilingual guide shares context about the Gobustan Rock Arts area and the wider region as you move between viewpoints, adapting explanations to your chosen language option when available.

    Mud volcanoes

    What to expect

The tour continues off-road to the mud volcanoes area near Gobustan. This is one of the most distinctive landscapes on the itinerary and involves dedicated off-road access.

    Features

    • You travel over rough terrain directly to the Mud Volcanoes, with the off-road fee to Mud Volcanoes already included so there is no separate payment required for this section of the route.

    • Time at the site lets you observe the mud pools and conical mounds from close range, with space to walk around and photograph the surrounding semi-desert setting.

    • An EZRaider ride is included in your experience, giving your group access to these off-road sections with suitable equipment that is arranged in advance by the operator.

    Ateshgah Fire Temple

    What to expect

Next you head to the Ateshgah Fire Temple area on the Absheron Peninsula. This stop focuses on the historic fire worship site and its courtyard complex.

    Features

    • You enter the Ateshgah Fire Temple grounds, walk through the central courtyard, and view the fire altar and surrounding structures at your own pace within the guided schedule.

    • Commentary from your multilingual guide outlines how Ateshgah fits into the wider story of fire-related sites around Baku.

    Yanardağ

    What to expect

The route then continues to Yanardağ Burning Mountain, known for its hillside gas flames. This is another key stop where you spend time at an open-air viewpoint.

    Features

    • You approach the Yanardağ slope and spend time at the viewing area that overlooks the continuous line of flames along the exposed hillside.

    • Your multilingual guide describes how Yanardağ Burning Mountain connects to the natural gas landscape around Baku, answering questions while you move between vantage points.

  • What to bring

    • Footwear: Wear comfortable shoes as you will be walking across multiple sites during the full-day tour.

    • Cash: Carry enough cash for personal expenses like souvenirs.

    Accessibility

    • Wheelchair accessibility: Please note that this tour is not accessible to wheelchair users.

    Additional information

    • Mud volcanoes in rain: Note that the mud volcanoes visit may be skipped in rainy weather for safety and access reasons.

    • Cancellation policy: You can cancel your booking up to 24 hours before the tour for a full refund.
