Visited with my mum last week and honestly, it’s hard to put into words. The small fortress is chilling, especially the cells—you can almost feel the past in the air. Our guide was super passionate (sometimes talked a bit fast tho, so I missed some bits). Weather was grey and moody which kinda fit the place. Bus was comfy, but fyi there’s not really anywhere to grab a snack til you’re back in town, so pack something if ur like me and get hangry. Left feeling thoughtful and a bit heavy, but learned a lot.

Went solo, which I think was the right call. The Terezin fortress is sobering but necessary, and the ghetto museum had so much detail (I def could’ve spent more time there, honestly—felt a bit rushed). Our bus group was international and the guide switched between languages, which was kinda impressive but made it tricky to follow sometimes. Also, the group size was bigger than I’d hoped. Still, the experience sticks with me.

My partner and I booked this because we’re both history nerds. The small fortress was fascinating—creepy in the best way. Our guide was funny, which felt weird at first, but she balanced the mood well. Liked the personal stories she shared. It got a bit crowded in the museum section, but that’s probably just how it is. Would do it again (with more snacks next time!).

What to bring

Bring a valid ID card or your passport with you, as it will be needed for verification before the tour sets off.

Choose comfortable, closed-toe shoes to navigate through the outdoor areas, uneven grounds, and long interior corridors comfortably.

Dress in layers, since much of the experience takes place outside, and it is often cooler and windier than in Prague.

What’s not allowed

Avoid bringing large luggage or oversized bags; only small personal items are permitted.

Do not use flash photography, as it can damage sensitive exhibits and is strictly forbidden.

Refrain from speaking loudly or engaging in disruptive behavior, as the memorial is a solemn place intended for quiet reflection.

Accessibility

This tour is not suitable for wheelchair users because the barracks and underground sections feature uneven floors, steep steps, and tight passageways that can be difficult to navigate.

The tour departs each day at 8:45am, so planning to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early will help ensure a smooth check-in process.

The drive from Prague to Terezín takes roughly one hour, though this may vary with traffic.

The Terezín Crematorium is closed on Sundays and cannot be visited on that day.
