Visited Anima Garden with my mum on a sunny afternoon—honestly, it felt like stepping into some kind of wild, living art gallery. Every path led to another weird and cool sculpture, and I kept stopping to see what was peeking through the trees next. We spent way longer than planned (2.5 hrs?) just wandering and taking pics (pro tip: bring a real camera if you have one, the phone pics don’t do the colors justice). Not even many people there, which was a shock after the city. Had mint tea on the terrace and stared at the Atlas Mountains for ages. Staff was super chill, helped us call a taxi back when we realized we’d missed the shuttle (oops). Just a dreamy, peaceful spot—def worth the drive.

The garden is GORGEOUS, but a bit out of the way. Took the shuttle from Koutoubia, which was right on time (don’t be late, they WILL leave without you). Loved the mix of jungle-y plants and giant art stuff. Some paths a little muddy after rain, so wear the right shoes. Cafe on site, decent coffee, but not much food if you’re super hungry. Would’ve liked more info about the artists, but still a super unique place.

I loooved this place. Came solo and just took my sweet time. The hammocks were sooo comfy, almost napped in one but didn’t want to miss anything. Birds everywhere, and you can smell rosemary and lavender as you walk. Found a hidden corner with a mosaic bench—felt like I was in a fairy tale. Staff spoke good English and let me store my bag at reception, which was helpful.

Me and my partner went early morning, barely anyone else around. The garden is lush and kinda wild, full of sculptures—some are really funky and unexpected. Saw a tortoise chilling by the bamboo, which made my day. The little shop is cute but pricey. If you want a slow peaceful wander away from the city noise, this is the place.

So, the gardens are super pretty but honestly thought it was smaller than I expected. It took us about an hour to see most things, and while the art is fun, my teens got bored halfway through. Cafe is nice for a drink, but not much else for kids to do. If you love plants and weird art, you’ll probably love it more than we did.
  • Explore ANIMA Garden with skip-the-line entry to the garden, museum, and rooftop bar in one seamless ticket.

    Getting started

The free shuttle departs from Lavage la Koutoubia, the car wash and parking area just behind the Koutoubia Mosque gardens — look for the green signage. Book your shuttle seat when you book your ticket; capacity is limited and fills up, especially on weekends. The shuttle leaves on schedule, so arrive at the pickup point at least 10 minutes before departure. The 45-minute ride south follows the Route d'Ourika through the outskirts of Marrakech, past Berber villages, and into the foothills of the High Atlas.

If you're driving, head south on Route d'Ourika for 27km until you pass a TOTAL service station on your left. Turn right 1km after that at the ANIMA sign, then follow an unpaved track for 500 meters to the entrance.

Scan your ticket at the ANIMA Garden entrance and use your skip-the-line entry to move past the regular queues. After entering, follow on-site signs that direct you toward the pathways, the museum, and the rooftop bar. You can choose the order in which you visit each area and set your own pace throughout your time inside.

    ANIMA Garden

    What to expect

ANIMA Garden is the main outdoor space included in your ticket, with pathways and planted areas to explore at your own pace.

    Features

    • Keith Haring murals: Haring worked personally with André Heller; his bold graphic works on garden walls are among the most visually arresting pieces in the collection.

    • Rodin's The Thinker: The original bronze cast sits in a garden clearing, encountered unexpectedly between plantings rather than on a museum plinth.

    • Moroccan calli-graffiti: Abderrahim Hamza's large-scale works blend traditional Arabic calligraphy with contemporary street art — one of the few distinctly Moroccan voices in the collection.

    • 250+ plant species: Bamboo, towering cacti, palms, aromatic herbs, and flowering shrubs across 2 hectares; the density and variety is unlike anything else near Marrakech.

    • Museum included: Two gallery rooms with changing international exhibitions are part of your entry — no separate booking or additional cost.

    • Café Paul Bowles: Named after the American writer who spent much of his life in Morocco, the café serves fresh juices, fine teas, pastries, and meals made with herbs, saffron, and mint grown in the garden itself.

    • Rooftop Atlas views: The terrace above the café offers a direct sightline to Jbel Toubkal (4,167m) — best from October through April when the summit is snow-capped.

  • What to bring

    • Comfortable flat shoes — paths are mostly compacted earth and gravel, with some uneven ground around sculptures and in the cactus sections.

    • Sunscreen and a hat; shaded stretches alternate with open clearings, particularly around the central pond.

    • A light layer for the museum rooms, which are air-conditioned.

    • Your camera or phone with storage; because there are no labels, photographing works is how most visitors record what they've seen.

    • Water, though fresh juices and teas are available at Café Paul Bowles at reasonable prices.

    What's not allowed

    • Drone photography is not permitted.

    • Professional photography equipment requires prior arrangement with the garden.

    • The shuttle departs on schedule; late arrivals at the pickup point miss the departure.

    Accessibility

    • Wheelchair access is limited. The main entrance area and some central paths are accessible, but sections with uneven terrain, steps near the museum, and narrower sculpture trails are not fully navigable in a wheelchair.

    • Strollers can be pushed through the wider main garden paths; the more overgrown sculpture trails are narrow.

    • Café Paul Bowles has ground-floor seating; the rooftop terrace involves a staircase with no lift.

    • Seating (benches, chairs, hammocks) is scattered throughout the garden for rest breaks.

    Additional information

    • On-site extras: The café, boutique, and curated experiences on-site are not included and must be paid for separately.

    • Shuttle pickup: Lavage la Koutoubia car park, behind the Koutoubia Mosque gardens, Marrakech.

    • By public transport: Bus ALSA 25 serves the route from central Marrakech.

    • By car: 27km south on Route d'Ourika, right turn 1km after the TOTAL station, then 500m on an unpaved track to the entrance.

    • Toilets are available at Café Paul Bowles.

    • A gift shop is located beside the café.

    • Your voucher will be emailed to you shortly.
    • Display the voucher on your mobile phone with a valid photo ID at the starting point.
    • Please check your final voucher for the starting point details & specific instructions.
