    Sulphur Mountain Observation Deck

    Sulphur Mountain’s observation deck is a renowned vantage point, offering sweeping views of Banff’s turquoise lakes and rugged peaks from 2,281 meters above sea level. The site is celebrated for its accessible summit and engaging visitor facilities.

  • What to bring

    • Carry a valid passport or photo ID.

    • Bring cash for any optional or additional purchases.

    • Wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes.

    • Dress for changing mountain weather, as conditions can shift quickly.

    What’s not allowed

    • Outside food and beverages are not allowed inside gondola cars or summit facilities.

    • Smoking, including e-cigarettes, is prohibited on the gondola and at the summit.

    • Pets are not permitted, except registered service animals.

    Accessibility

    • The Banff Gondola is fully wheelchair accessible, and each car can accommodate a wheelchair plus one passenger to the summit.

    • Accessible restrooms are available on site.

    • Staff members are available to assist guests with mobility needs.

    Additional information

    • Operations may be suspended during severe weather for safety reasons.

    • The Banff National Park day pass is not included and must be purchased separately online or at Parks Canada’s gate.

    • Your return gondola is usually scheduled 1 hour and 20 minutes after departure. Timings can be adjusted on-site, depending on availability.

    • Advance reservations are recommended for on-site restaurants.

    • Admission includes access to hiking trails, the Above Banff Interpretive Center and Theatre, plus seasonal events such as Nightrise and the Sunset Festival.

    • The gondola ride takes roughly 8 minutes each way.
