Went solo, joined a mixed group. The scenery was beautiful, especially the green mountains against clear blue sky. Our driver was a little late but apologized and explained traffic. The walk up to the waterfall is kinda steep, so wear decent shoes (I wore sandals, not smart). Guide was super patient with everyone! Marketplace was a bit crowded and sellers pushy, but I got some cool tea glasses. Would go again, but maybe with friends next time.

Took my mum to Ourika Valley for her birthday and honestly it was epic! The air was soooo fresh (def needed after Marrakech heat). Our guide, Hicham, remembered everyone’s name and cracked little jokes all day. Loved the waterfall, got a tiny bit splashed but worth it for the views. Lunch at the riverside café was DELISH—get the tagine. Only thing, bring cash for the market stalls, I forgot and had to borrow from mum. Still, such a good day!

This was the highlight of our Morocco trip! We went as a group of friends, and our driver, Zacarias, played Moroccan pop the whole ride which made it feel like a lil roadtrip. Stopped at an argan oil co-op—learned how they make the oil (spoiler: goats involved!). Waterfall walk was muddy, but honestly, made it more fun. Don’t wear white shoes.

  • Escape Marrakech for a private full-day tour in the Atlas Mountains, where you'll see Berber villages, learn about argan oil production, and hike to cascading waterfalls—all at your own pace with your dedicated guide and driver.

    Getting started

Your private driver picks you up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech between 8:30-9:00am in an air-conditioned vehicle. If your accommodation is in the old medina and not accessible by car, you'll meet at a nearby pickup point (confirmed by email the day before). Have your booking confirmation ready. Pickup details will be sent via email the day before your trip (usually by 5pm), or shortly after booking for last-minute reservations. Sit on the right side for clearer early views of the High Atlas peaks as you leave the city.

    What to expect

A full day exploring the High Atlas foothills with complete flexibility. Your private guide adapts the itinerary to your interests and pace. You'll drive through mountain scenery, stop at Tnine Ourika village, visit a Berber home, see argan oil being handmade, and hike to Setti Fatma waterfalls. Request longer stops at places that interest you or additional photo breaks at panoramic viewpoints.

    Features

    • Private scenic Atlas Mountains drive: Leave Marrakech behind as palm groves and red earth foothills replace the city. Your driver pauses whenever you want at panoramic viewpoints where the High Atlas fills the horizon. The road follows centuries-old trade corridors through the Al Haouz Plain, where snowmelt-fed irrigation sustains farms. Temperatures drop 5-10°C as you climb.

    • Tnine Ourika village stop: Stop at Tnine Ourika, a traditional Berber village with a weekly Monday souk. If your tour falls on a Monday, see locals trading spices, produce, textiles, and crafts. On other days, pass through and see children walking to school, communal bread ovens, and stone homes framed by mountain backdrops.

    • Women's argan oil cooperative: Watch Berber women crack argan nuts between stones and press the kernels—one liter of oil takes over 20 hours to produce. Your guide explains why quality argan oil varies so widely in price and how the cooperative supports local women. Taste the culinary argan oil before buying—it reveals freshness better than cosmetic testing.

    • Berber home visit: Step inside a traditional adobe house built into the mountainside, designed to insulate against both heat and cold. See handwoven carpets with patterns that influence modern Moroccan design and low seating areas. Meet a local family over mint tea (watch the pouring ritual) and ask about seasonal routines.

    • Ourika Valley arrival: Reach the heart of Ourika Valley, where the year-round Ourika River creates a lush green microclimate fed by snowmelt from the High Atlas. Listen for water before you see it—the sound helps orient your walk and photo timing.

    • Setti Fatma village walk: Walk through Setti Fatma village with your private guide, who adjusts the pace to your group. The mix of riverside cafés, local guides, and villagers creates lively energy before the hike. Walk slightly beyond the main bridge for fewer crowds and better bridge views with cafés, river, and mountain walls.

    • Private waterfall hike: Your private mountain guide leads the hike from Setti Fatma village (1,500m altitude) to the first of seven waterfalls. The rocky trail climbs 200 meters alongside the Ourika River, crossing wooden bridges. Your guide helps with safe crossings and adapts the pace to your fitness level. Most people stop at the first falls—your guide can take you slightly higher for quieter views.

    • Riverside setting: Relax by the Ourika River where cafés and restaurants line the banks. If you've upgraded to lunch, enjoy a 3-course meal on platforms built directly over the river. Order before peak hours for full menu availability.

You'll return to Marrakech as late afternoon light enhances the red-earth tones. Your guide points out Atlas peaks and drops you at your hotel or a different location in the city if requested.

  • What to bring

    • Comfortable hiking shoes with good grip for rocky terrain

    • Sunglasses, sun hat, and sunscreen

    • Water bottle (refill stops available)

    • Camera for waterfall and mountain photos

    • Waterfall hike involves 200 meters of elevation gain on uneven, rocky terrain

    • Bridges along the trail have no railings

    • Your private guide can adjust the hike difficulty or skip it entirely based on your group's needs

    Additional information

    • Pickup details will be sent via email the day before your trip (usually by 5pm), or shortly after booking for last-minute reservations

    • Drop-off can be at the same pickup point or a different location in Marrakech upon request

    • Your private tour allows flexible timing at each stop—spend more time where you're interested

    • Regular stops for lunch, water, and restrooms can be adjusted to your preferences

    • Arrival time back in Marrakech may vary based on your chosen pace and requested stops

    • Monday tours include the Tnine Ourika weekly souk; other days pass through the village

    • Reaching waterfalls 2-7 requires additional climbing—discuss with your private guide if interested

    • German and Italian-speaking guides available for additional fee.
