Both sites are stunning in their own way. Villa Adriana exceeded our expectations - the features can only be fully appreciated in person. The fountains at Villa d'Este unfortunately started their closure on the day we arrived, which we knew in advance. The villa interiors are beautiful and the detail of the fountains was still spectacular. We will plan to visit the gardens when the water is operating.

It was an incredible experience on every level, and much less crowded than any other place in Rome. It's great to be able to visit a place like this without being caught in a flood of visitors. Big downside... transportation to get there is not easy, and shuttle bus directions are completely lacking. There's an urgent need for action here.

We took a taxi to and from Villa D'Este. Convenience won. The gardens and fountains are what we came to see and they did not disappoint. They are lovely and unique and completely worth the trip. Lots of shade on a hot day. Wonderful to be able to just stop for a drink of icy cold water at the fountains. A spectacular sight.

Avoided line. The guide was of little use during the visit as a guide to the route to follow. After the visit it was of some use in reviewing the places visited.

Such a beautiful place, but what wasn't communicated before I paid for these tickets was that at Villa D'Este, there is NO waterfalls or fountains. right now. None. There was only two large ponds full of water. It's a beautiful place with the gardens obviously, but the point is seeing the waterfalls as that's why it's a UNESCO site. Disappointing from that perspective and should have been mentioned upon purchasing.

The villas were nice and I enjoyed walking around them. However, the audioguides could have more information. The audios are short and not very informative. The point of an audioguide is to *guide* you in your self-directed tour not just give you very brief information about a few things.
