    Getting started

    Meet your certified instructor at Dive Maui’s shop on Front Street for a quick gear fitting and safety briefing. After a short walk to Mala Wharf, your group will enter the water together and begin the dive.

    What to expect

    Maui Turtle and Shark Dive Tours

    Mala Wharf, transformed by Hurricane Iniki in 1992, is now Maui’s top shore dive, teeming with marine life. The sunken pier structure has become a thriving artificial reef, attracting turtles, sharks, and a variety of reef species.

    Features

    • Turtle encounters: Spot Maui’s honu (green sea turtles) throughout the dive, with a guaranteed sighting or a free second dive.

    • White tip reef sharks: Observe these sharks resting under sections of the old pier, a common highlight of the site.

    • Reef exploration: Explore the wreckage covered in colorful corals, sponges, and home to schools of fish, octopus, eels, and the elusive frogfish.

    • Small group attention: Dives are limited to 4 people, ensuring personalized guidance and safety from your PADI instructor.

    • Extended bottom time: Standard 80 cubic feet tanks allow for dives lasting up to an hour, maximizing your underwater experience.

  • What to bring

    • Carry a valid photo ID that matches the name on your booking if requested at check-in.

    • Bring swimwear and a towel for the dive.

    • Use reef-safe sunscreen to protect marine life.

    • Bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.

    • You may bring your own dive mask or snorkel if preferred, though all rental gear is provided.

    What’s not allowed

    • Alcohol, drugs, or any form of intoxication are strictly prohibited before and during the dive.

    • Large bags, suitcases, and oversized luggage are not permitted.

    • Touching or disturbing marine life is strictly prohibited.

    • Smoking is not allowed during the experience.

    Accessibility

    • This experience is not suitable for wheelchair users.

    • Participants must be able to walk short distances and enter the water from the shore.

    Additional information

    • All dives are led by certified PADI instructors.

    • Dive duration is up to 1 hour, depending on individual air consumption.

    • Shore dives are conducted privately or in small groups, with a maximum of 4 divers.

    • Standard tanks are 80 cubic feet, with smaller tank options available on request.

    • A turtle sighting is guaranteed, or a second dive is offered free of charge.

    • Additional second tank dives can be arranged onsite for an extra fee.

    • Please arrive at the dive shop (1223 Front Street, Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii 96761) at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time.

    • Participants must be certified divers in good health; consult a doctor before booking if you have any medical conditions.

    • The experience runs rain or shine but may be rescheduled if ocean conditions are unsafe.

    • Your voucher will be emailed to you shortly.
