Manon

Opera performance of Manon at Palais Garnier, Paris, with ornate interior and audience.

Duration

3 hrs 25 mins

Directed by the accomplished Vincent Huguet, this show is an incredible revival of Massenet’s famous opéra comique Manon!

  • A young girl named Manon is sent away by her family to join a convent. As she leaves home, she meets a man named Des Grieux, who falls deeply in love with her, and the young couple vow to elope and escape to Paris. Their happiness is short-lived, as Manon is forced to leave Des Grieux for the wealthy De Brétigny. When she finds out that Des Grieux has, in his anguish, chosen the life of a priest, Manon rushes to declare her love for him. The two are eventually united, but their troubles are far from over.

First performed in 1884, Jules Massenet’s five-act opera has widely been regarded as one of the jewels of French opéra comique. Arca d'Oro Italia Young Talents Award-winning soprano Pretty Yende and the equally talented Sofia Fomina are set to play the lead role of Manon. Opera veterans Benjamin Bernheim and Stephen Costello will take on the role of Le chevalier des Grieux. Manon will be led by conductor Dan Ettinger, the chief director of the Mannheim National Theatre and the Israeli Opera.
