The whale, nature’s gentle behemoths, is one of the most fascinating creatures to share the planet with us. How do you get so big by eating the smallest animals on the planet? What do their melancholic calls mean? Find out all this and more on this Whale Watching tour from Reykjavik. Experience the large variety of sea life that populates these waters, including minke whales, humpback whales, harbor porpoises and white-beaked dolphins among other whale species, as well as Iceland’s rich and variegated native birdlife. This tour focuses on comfort, unique experiences and personal service while making sure the environment is protected and respected in every way possible.
Set sail on one of the largest whale-watching boats in Iceland, the Andrea and enjoy extra comfort, fantastic interior, and seating areas, large outside viewing decks, a safe family-friendly environment, and a café & souvenir shop on-board. Learn more about the wildlife you spot from the expert guides and friendly crew on board, and discover how to spot whales out on the bay. You can also find out more about these leviathans from the on-board display of whale teeth, bones, baleen, plankton nets, and a microscope, making this a truly hands-on whale-watching classroom.
Before or after the cruise, you can visit the Whales of Iceland exhibition in Reykjavik and learn more about the whales that live in Faxaflói Bay and around Iceland during your visit, with 23 life-size, hand-painted whale models for your reference. Get an inkling of their size by touching and exploring each whale for yourself. Experience a sojourn through the world of these behemoths, with soothing whale songs, ambient underwater lighting and beach-like floors adding to your immersion.
The latest addition to Whales of Iceland is the Fin Whale Room. This room highlights the various threats that marine mammals face today, and features incredible underwater footage of whales throughout the day. A nature documentary called Sonic Sea plays daily at 11 AM and 3 PM in the room, and a daily live-guided tour is also available for free for all ticketholders at 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM.
Finish your visit to the exhibition with a freshly baked pastry and a cup of coffee in their Whale Cafe. You can also make a stop for a souvenir at the gift shop on the way out – this unique shop has a variety of souvenirs from local and international artists for you to peruse.
This experience will give you a complete and comprehensive look at the lives of these awe-inspiring leviathans.

Important Information
-
The tour is dependent on weather and sightings cannot be guaranteed.
-
Weather and sea conditions can be unpredictable during the winter months. The captains will make their decision to sail based on many years of experience, always keeping in mind passenger safety and comfort.
-
Sometimes in the winter, you might sail from other harbors south of Reykjavik for better sea conditions, in which case transport will be provided for all passengers to and from Reykjavik. In this case, the tour might be slightly longer due to the extra drive.
-
Before entering the Whales of Iceland exhibition you will receive an audio guide that will take you through each whale species, available in 12+ languages.
-
Please note: You only need to select a departure time for the whale-watching tour, and not for the museum. The ticket for the museum is an open ticket, meaning you can simply choose when you want to go. This does not have to be the same day as your whale-watching tour.
