Getting started

Check in at the Pacific Whale Foundation Ocean Store at Maʻalaea Harbor Shops, where your ticket will be verified before boarding. Once on board, the crew will provide a comprehensive safety briefing and outline the day’s itinerary. Guests who are new to snorkeling may join the optional Snorkel 101 session to build confidence before entering the water.

What to bring

A credit card is required for any onboard purchases because the vessels are cashless, with cash accepted only for crew tips.

If you are 21 or older and would like to enjoy alcoholic beverages, you must carry a valid photo ID.

Choose flat or low-profile footwear to ensure stable footing while onboard.

Bring reef-safe or mineral-based sunscreen to help protect the ocean ecosystem, or purchase it onboard if necessary.

What’s not allowed

The use of full-face snorkel masks is not allowed, and guests must use the traditional snorkel equipment supplied.

Smoking and vaping are not permitted anywhere on the vessel.

Guests must not stand on seating or sit on railings, tables, counters, or chair backs.

For safety reasons, children are not allowed to ride on someone’s shoulders while onboard.

Accessibility

Individuals with heart or respiratory conditions, high blood pressure, or mobility concerns should seek medical advice before snorkeling.

Guests who cannot swim should not participate in snorkeling, and everyone should use flotation when appropriate and snorkel alongside a buddy.

Please arrive 45 minutes before departure to check in at the Pacific Whale Foundation Ocean Store located in the Maʻalaea Harbor Shops.

Guests are required to attend the Snorkel 101 safety session before entering the water, and if they experience shortness of breath, they should remove their snorkel and exit calmly.

Staying hydrated is strongly recommended, and reef-safe sunscreen use is encouraged.

Humpback whales are typically seen during the seasonal window from December through April.
