  • SKYCAB, EAGLE’S NEST SKYWALK and SKYTRAIL

SkyCab - Cable Car Ride The nearly vertical lift from the Base Station to the Middle Station will give riders a breath- taking view of the natural landscapes of Machinchang Cambrian Geo Forest. Among the beautiful sceneries are Telaga Tujuh Waterfall, Pulau Anak Burau, Machinchang Ridge and the hundreds of metres thick sequence of Machinchang sandstone exposures. Apart from Telaga Tujuh Waterfall, during the raining season, one could also observe several smaller waterfalls rushing down the mountain along intermittent streams. The rocky wall of Machinchang reveals a thick pile of flat-lying sandstones, mostly thickly-bedded. Large- scale cross-beds are also common features within these sandstone beds. The Machinchang Cable Car Trail comprises scenic viewing from cable car ride between the Base Station and the Top Station while the walking trails from the Base Station to the Middle and Top stations offer the experience of basking in the biodiversity of the forest reverse area. To promote sustainable activity, Langkawi SkyCab has team up with The Habitat Penang to bring the SkyTrail, a guided trekking activity from Base Station to Middle and to the Top Station. Please refer to attached for details on Slytrail. On a good day with a clear blue sky, from this viewing platform, a 360° view of panoramic views of Langkawi will give the visitors’ moments to remember. The panorama ranges from the rugged and choppy peaks of Machinchang to the smooth and rather conical peak of Langkawi, the Gunung Raya (881 m), from the greener landscapes of the low and undulating hills of Singa Formation to the grey, rugged landscapes of the Setul and Chuping limestones. At certain angles, one can view some of Langkawi’s most beautiful beaches and different shapes of islands. At another angle, visitors can see as far as the Southern part of Thailand.

Middle Station platform Middle Station is located 650 meter above sea level and the first stop of the cable car ride. Here, visitors can observe the overview and identify different types of landscapes, above the dense rainforest canopy and out to the distant islands. Nestled on the peak of the Middle Station is a new attraction named Eagle’s Nest SkyWalk emulating an Eagle head looking over the Nest. The new attraction is located 650 metres from sea level, structured on a 38 meter free standing cantilever glass platform which at one time can accommodate about 300 people with an equivalent of 21 tons. SkyBridge and Podest 1 and 2 Completed in 2014, this suspension bridge is built at 650 meters above sea level. Accessible from top station by a mechanical lift called SkyGlide or via a natural walk thru the flora and fauna of the forest. The bridge is suspended from an 82 meters high single pylon hangs about 100 meters from the ground. The visitors’ platform is called Podest 1 as entry and exit point and Podest 2, a viewing platform at the further end of the 125 meter long bridge. Observation on different types of landform comprising cone shape hill, deep valley, rock pillar, cliff and cubicle sandstone. Halfway across the bridge, looking down is a linear deep gorge with vertical cliffs due to faulting (lateral earth displacement). The facilitator will explain how these various landscapes are formed using sketches of the sequence of events.

North and South Platforms at the Top Station Visitors can experience the breath-taking views from these top platforms. Beautifully preserved ripple marks and planar cross-beds can be seen at the top station that shows evidence of ancient times, when the peak of Mount Machinchang was actually in a shallow sea bottom. The trail also cuts across the Machinchang gorge, with sharply cut vertical cliffs on both of its walls. There are many information panels describing the landscape of the area.
