Getting started

Arrive at the Safi workshop and check in for your Standard Group Workshop Session. You join a standard group workshop format with up to ten participants, then meet your expert designer. After a short introduction to the space and materials, you settle at your workstation and get ready to begin your hands-on caftan and djellaba design session.

What to expect

This activity is a single, immersive workshop where you focus on creating traditional Moroccan garments. You work directly on fabric rather than watching a demonstration, and progress step by step from understanding shapes to completing a piece to take home.

• Learn the cut and finish of the djellaba, the caftan, and the Moroccan headscarf as your expert designer breaks down each element and shows how these traditional garments are constructed.
• Hear what the embroidery of the Safi region means and how it differs from town to town, gaining insight into how patterns and stitches signal local identity and stories.
• Handle the fabrics, threads, trims, and other tools yourself instead of just observing, exploring all fabric, thread, tools, and materials as you work through this hands-on caftan and djellaba design session.
• Take part in a guided session in Arabic, Darija, or English, with clear step-by-step support in a standard group workshop format, and finish with a completed caftan or djellaba piece to take home as your own work.
• Pause during the session for traditional Moroccan tea and water, included alongside all fabric and materials, while you continue refining your design and stitching.
