Kyoto Kyudo Experience with 20 Arrows

Your Kyoto Kyudo session takes you through the basics of Japanese archery before you practise 20 arrows with professional equipment in an indoor, climate-controlled facility in Gion.

Getting started

You'll check in at the indoor Kyudo range in Kyoto's Gion district. Your session begins with an introduction to essential Kyudo etiquette, basic techniques, and safety. You'll then receive professional Kyudo equipment, including a bow and arrows, before moving into the shooting portion of the experience.

What to expect

Kyudo instruction and preparation

You'll first learn the fundamentals needed to handle the Japanese bow safely and take part in the session. The instruction is designed for beginners, so you'll receive guidance on essential rules, techniques, and safety before shooting.

20-arrow shooting session

You'll then put the techniques into practice by shooting 20 arrows during your session. The shooting portion takes around 15 to 20 minutes, with the exact duration varying depending on the number of participants.

• Get photo assistance from staff during the session

• Continue practising inside the climate-controlled range

Traditional Hakama option

If you've selected the Traditional Uniform Plan, you'll change into Hakama, a traditional Japanese uniform, before your shooting session. Staff will assist you with dressing, and you'll change back into your own clothes afterward.

• Allow around 10 minutes to dress in Hakama

• Receive staff assistance while getting dressed

• Change back after completing the shooting session

Samurai Armor option

If you've selected the Samurai Armor Plan, you'll wear Samurai armor while taking part in the shooting session. Staff will assist you with dressing, and you should allow around 15 minutes for the process.

• Receive staff assistance while getting dressed

• Change back after completing the shooting session

Wrapping up

After your shooting session, you'll have around 5 to 10 minutes to relax at the cafe. Your experience includes one non-alcoholic drink, giving you time to unwind before finishing the activity. The full experience lasts around 1 hour.
