Excellent guide with a lot of unknown stories and details on the life of Sisi ! Impressive rooms, beautiful items, pictures, paintings give a very good viw on the life of the last Habsburg emperors. Large groups of mostly chinese tourists should be forbidden, blocking passage and whole rooms and no social behaviour towards other visitors

Michael was our guide and he was absolutely wonderful. Very good English, the audio equipment was excellent (I have had some bad ones on other tours). Loved the Sisi Museum, and the walk around the grounds. And we had a gorgeous day weatherwise!! Definitely recommend this tour.

Stunning palace, loaded with history and almost overwhelming. I was glad to have booked a guide; Celine was just wonderful! She shepherded all of us despite a downpour, was knowledgeable, patient and obviously loved her job! Great tour.

  • Save time and discover Vienna’s imperial legacy with this combo: enjoy a self-guided audio tour of Hofburg Palace and a skip-the-line guided visit to the Sisi Museum and Imperial Apartments.

    Getting started

Begin at the Weltmuseum Wien entrance on Heldenplatz, where your ticket is scanned and you collect your audio guide. For the Sisi Museum tour, meet your guide at the designated spot, present your ticket, and join your group for fast-track entry.

    What to expect

Hofburg Palace, Weltmuseum Wien, Collection of Old Musical Instruments, and Imperial Armory

Explore the former seat of the Habsburg dynasty at your own pace with a multilingual audio guide. The palace complex spans centuries of political power, cultural exchange, and artistic achievement.

    Features:

    • Hofburg Palace: Walk through ceremonial halls and private apartments, tracing the transformation from a 13th-century fortress to an imperial residence that shaped European history.

    • Weltmuseum Wien: Discover global treasures—textiles from Asia, ceremonial costumes from Africa and America, and rare objects from Oceania—collected during the Habsburgs’ reign.

    • Collection of Old Musical Instruments: Admire historic harpsichords, violins, and lutes, including works by Stradivari, and learn how music was woven into courtly life.

    • Imperial Armory: View gilded armor, ornate swords, and ceremonial weapons, each a testament to imperial power and craftsmanship.

Sisi Museum and Imperial Apartments at Hofburg

Join a 2.5-hour guided tour (in your selected language) for an in-depth look at Empress Elisabeth’s world and the daily life of the Habsburgs.

    Features:

    • Sisi Museum: See Empress Elisabeth’s jewelry, clothing, and personal items, offering insight into her unique legacy.

    • Imperial Apartments: Step into the former winter residence of the royal family, with access to private chambers, dressing rooms, and the empress’s exercise room.

    • Hofburg Courtyards and Gardens: Stroll through Heldenplatz and Burggarten, learn about the Spanish Riding School’s Lipizzaner horses, and visit Heroes’ Square and Augustinian Church, all with expert commentary from your guide.

    Why choose this combo?

Experience both the freedom of a self-paced audio tour and the depth of a guided visit, plus skip-the-line access, discovering most of Vienna’s history in one seamless booking.

  • What to bring

    • Carry a valid photo ID, especially if you booked your tickets online, as some staff may request it at entry.

    • Bring along a small backpack with a sunhat, sunglasses, and a water bottle.

    • Choose supportive, closed shoes since you’ll be walking extensively over stone floors, uneven cobblestones, and large open courtyards.

    • Pack your own headphones for a better audio-guide experience, and opt for a wired pair instead of Bluetooth to avoid connection issues.

    • A light scarf or cardigan is handy if you’re visiting in spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November), as open courtyards can feel breezy even on sunny days.

    • Carry a compact umbrella or rain jacket if you’re visiting during Vienna’s wetter months (April, May, September, and October).

    What’s not allowed

    • Flash photography is prohibited in most indoor exhibition areas to protect delicate artworks and furnishings.

    • Tripods, selfie sticks, and large camera equipment are not permitted inside.

    • Food and beverages are not permitted inside museum or gallery spaces.

    • Large bags, suitcases, and other oversized items must be stored in the cloakroom or lockers before entry.

    • Large luggage is not allowed due to space limitations.

    • Smoking and vaping are not allowed anywhere within the palace buildings.

    • Pets are not permitted, except for certified service animals.

    • Nobody likes a crowd. A single group has a maximum of 25 people.

    Accessibility

    • This experience is not accessible by wheelchair and pram/strollers.

    • Choose safety and comfort: This experience is not the best fit for mobility issues.

    Additional information

    • The Sisi Museum has narrow corridors. For a smooth tour experience, stay close to your guide.

    • Your tour will proceed as planned, even if extreme weather restricts access to the free outdoor areas including the courtyards, Heldenplatz, and Burggarten.

    • The weather here tends to bring unexpected twists. Dress in layers for adaptable comfort.

    • If you’re visiting between June and August, book your tickets at least 2 to 3 weeks ahead, as summer draws the largest crowds in Vienna. For milder weather and fewer visitors, plan your trip between March and May or September and November.

    • Arrive by 9:30am or later in the afternoon to enjoy a calmer atmosphere; midday tends to draw the heaviest crowds.

    • The main entrance for visitors is at the Weltmuseum Wien on Heldenplatz, beside the large equestrian statue of Archduke Charles and facing the Burgtor archway.

    • If you’re hoping to catch the Spanish Riding School's famed morning exercises, plan to be there by 10am to secure the best views.

    • For a special cultural treat, visit on a Sunday between mid-September and June and arrive by about 9:15am to attend the High Mass at the Hofburg Chapel.

    • Set aside a full hour or up to 90 minutes for the Treasury’s regalia and treasures.
