What a place! Hiring or taking a bike is absolutely the way to go. I caught the ferry which gets you there in 40-45 mins to the harbour from the settlement area. Which has a great variety of food outlets and information centres as to where to go. I made my way around to the basin to snorkel the aqua and turquoise water where there is also reefs and then further on to Catherine's beach. Quokkas just sit in bushes and are chilled. All I can say 5 hours was not enough and I'll definitely be back. Loved it.

The ferry check in, bike collection and ferry travel was all excellent and seamless. Rottnest Island was very busy though. To me it was so chaotic with 1000's of cyclists all trying to get around. I used the bus instead and went to the far end of the island to do some walking and birdwatching in peace!

Excellent ferry and bike hire from Sealink. Cycled whole island looking for Quokkas and only found them at the Settlement at the end. Beaches were amazing - favourite was Little Salmon Bay where we swam. Food and beer at Frankie's (excellent) before sailing back.

I used the QR code to scan and get my ticket super quickly. Although they couldn’t find my bike rental reservation on the island, I showed them the information, and they just gave me a backup bike. Really appreciate.

The bikes were easily rideable and well maintained! The self guided maps were easily located and the staff were very friendly. Gorgeous weather and multiple quokka sightings sealed the deal on a great day trip!

You can see spots like Bathurst Lighthouse and Pinky Beach as the ferry approaches the island.

Cycle, explore, and marvel at Rottnest Island's wonders

Upon your arrival, pick up your bike and helmet and set off on your cycling adventure. Choose from three scenic routes tailored to your pace and curiosity. The Rotto Mini-Loop offers a breezy 4 km ride through tranquil bushland, past The Basin’s crystal-clear waters and serene salt lakes, with a stop at Vlamingh Lookout for sweeping island views. The 10 km Beaches, Lighthouses, and Lakes route guides you along stunning bays like Little Salmon Bay and Porpoise Bay, culminating in a climb up Wadjemup Lighthouse for panoramic vistas. For seasoned explorers, the 22 km Island Ride showcases the island’s most rugged and remote wonders. Pedal to the West End, where Cathedral Rocks and Cape Vlamingh provide breathtaking views of long-nosed fur seals, Australian sea lions, and even bottlenose dolphins or migrating humpback whales from August to December.

What's not allowed

Guests under the age of 4 are restricted from participating in this experience.

Additional information

Guide dogs are allowed onboard the ferry. However, as Rottnest Island is an A-Class reserve you should contact the rangers there for further advice on service dog allowance.

All passengers must arrive at the terminal at least 30 minutes prior to departure. If you are traveling with no luggage or freight and have e-tickets or QR codes, please make your way straight to the boarding gate. Final Boarding is 5 minutes prior to departure after which the vessel gangways are removed to ensure that the vessel departs by the stated time.

Bicycles must be collected on the island by an adult over 18 years and must be returned by closing time on the same day.

Ferry tickets are valid for same-day return from a selected departure point.

Bikes with baby seats can be requested, subject to availability.

Children's bikes are suitable for children between the ages of 4 to 7. Children aged 7 or older can usually use adult-sized bikes.
