The sheer beauty of the island, especially the swim we had near the wreck of the shark on the south-eastern side. The hire bicycles, well they were the worst bike ride I have had in my nearly 70 years of life. They were small, unadjustable, cramped and seats were hard. Despite my complaints, they did get us around the island and didn't spoil the experience. Turning on a whale-watching experience during the return journey was the icing on the cake. Would I recommend this trip to family & friends? YES 10/10 Would I consider going again if I come back to Perth? YES.

One of the best things I have done. Easy booking process, the guides were helpful in helping me understand what to do, one point to note is there is a booth at the Fremantle B gate for the tour operator where you get your tickets from the voucher. Bike hire super easy, the route around the whole island is a little hilly, but I got round it all in the day with two hours to spare enough time to get some food

Enjoyed the whole trip! Lots to see and do, especially with renting a bike. Would recommended as a day trip for those on limited time to explore what Rotness has to offer. Would also recommend the tunnels tour, our guide was funny, knowledgeable and made it very interesting!

I love how clean the island was and how we were able to rent a bike to ride around the island which made the experience more fun for sure. Definitely recommended for foreigners and locals!

Getting started

Your ticket includes round-trip ferry transfers from Fremantle (B-Shed or Northport) and entry to Rottnest Island. The crossing takes just 30 minutes. On arrival, collect your bike, helmet, and lock, then set off on a day of island exploration at your own pace.

What to expect

Quokka encounters: Start at Thomson Bay, home to the island’s famous quokkas. Perfect for photos and close-up encounters, observe responsibly and never feed them.

The Basin: Cycle to this calm, turquoise swimming spot, surrounded by white sand and natural rock pools. Ideal for a refreshing swim or snorkel stop.

Bathurst Lighthouse: Ride along the coast to the lighthouse near Pinky Beach for sweeping views and photo opportunities of Rottnest’s rugged shoreline.

Wadjemup Lighthouse: Head inland to the island’s central lighthouse, offering panoramic views over beaches and reefs, plus insights into Rottnest’s maritime history.

Hidden bays & coves: Explore tucked-away gems like Little Armstrong Bay, Parakeet Bay, and Strickland Bay, each offering unique views and quieter settings.

Cycling routes: Choose from clearly signposted coastal or inland trails that link the island’s key landmarks, lookouts, and historic sites. Maps are available to help plan your loop based on distance and time.

What to bring

Bring along your swimwear, sunglasses, sunscreen, hat, and water bottle.

What's not allowed

Carry-on items are allowed if they fit on your seat without taking extra space. For safety, luggage cannot block aisles, wheelchair spaces, or exits.

Alcohol, weapons, drugs, drones, pets, smoking and furniture are not allowed onboard the ferry.

The ferry is wheelchair accessible.

Rottnest Island is an A-Class reserve. So, it’s best to check directly with the island rangers for the most up-to-date advice on service dog access and allowances.
