This place, which I actually had never heard of before visiting Portugal, was an absolute pleasure and a "must see" for anyone visiting Lisbon. Just the trip up the hillside to the castle entrance, including a quick swing through the city of Sintra, was just beautiful. And the castle itself was breath taking. In addition, the logistics were easy to do. Our on-line ticket purchase the day before allowed us an early entry before the site became too crowded. We opted to walk up the hill (there is a shuttle for those who can' or don't wish to make the climb) and found the walk through the surrounding park to be wonderful. Arriving at the castle entry was easy and a self-guided tour allowed us to enjoy whatever aspects of the castle we wanted to see. Something we'd not seen before. Visitors can scan a QR code at the entrance (bring your mobile phone!) and download descriptions of each room, without having to fuss with the headsets and players typically in use. This made the excursion that more enjoyable. As mentioined, if you're in Lisbon, don't miss the chance to visit. It's important to do this with a tour bus or a private (tourguide) car. Parking in the area is nearly non-existent, and it's best to have someone else worry about transportation for you.

Quinta da Regaleira was easily one of my favourite places to visit in Sintra. I especially enjoyed strolling through the huge gardens, with their winding paths, towers, hidden grottoes and views of the surrounding mountains. There’s so much to see that it’s worth taking your time rather than rushing from one attraction to the next. I also liked learning that a lot of thought went into the design of the gardens, wells and underground tunnels, with hidden meanings and references to mythology and old spiritual traditions. It makes you look at the whole place a little differently, knowing that so many of the details are there for a reason. The famous Initiation Well is definitely a highlight, but I was just as impressed by the underground tunnels. Walking through those dimly lit stone passages was quite an experience, especially since some of the rough stones almost look like skulls at first glance. A little eerie, but also really intriguing! And as a lovely little bonus, we even came across a cute cat hanging out in the castle gardens, looking completely at home among all the visitors. Such an unusual and memorable place, and definitely worth spending a few hours exploring!

One of the highlights of my whole trip was the visit to Pena Palace. High up in the mountains, it really is a fairytale palace! I think the only downside is the communication conveyed. We are told to be there in ample time, we are told we can get a public transit bus from the station and they run every 10-15 minutes. What they don't tell you is that the public transit bus is not really that "public" as in they don't accept navegante cards nor do they sell single or return tickets and you must buy a whole day hop on hop off ticket. They also don't tell you that from the station it takes 40 minutes to get to the Park entrance. I nearly missed my timeslot despite giving it plenty of time. It would help others if these numbers are actually given with the directions. I thoroughly enjoyed my day though and think the bus was worth the €10.95.

We were so fortunate as to have Pedro for our tuck tuck guide. Not only did he tour us around Sintra and Cascais but he also took us to the beach and to all of the spots that were not touristy. Pedro has the inside scoop on where to go, where to stand for the best pictures, and what the true important things and must sees are. He is the best guide we have had on any trip bar none. If you want to rent a tuk tuk, make sure you request Pedro. I take my reviews very seriously because I rely on them in booking tours. His knowledge of the history and the area is beyond compare. We very much enjoyed Quinta de Regalaria and the history lesson from Pedro.

Visitar el Palacio Nacional de Sintra fue todo un acierto. Está ubicado justo en el centro histórico, lo que hace que sea muy accesible. Sus dos imponentes chimeneas blancas llaman la atención desde fuera, pero lo mejor está en el interior: la colección de azulejos tradicionales es impresionante y las salas (especialmente la Sala de los Escudos y la Sala de los Cisnes) están magníficamente conservadas. El recorrido dura entre 1 y 1.5 horas y se hace de forma muy fluida y cómoda. Recomendable comprar las entradas con antelación para evitar colas en las horas puntas. ¡Totalmente imprescindible si visitas Sintra!

My friends from abroad were spellbound. Go early in the morning, bring a small flashlight for the tunnels, and take your time. Truly a must-see

Llegada complicada porque fui en coche y fue dificil aparcar, asi que no empezó bien el día. Llegar a la Quinta con indicaciones de personas de lla Villa de Sintra muy bien, porque no esta nada indicado. Dentro de la Quinta es un auténtico caos, porque aunque te dan un mapa, no hay ninguna señalizado de los sitios, solo del pozo y la torre y poco mas, de hecho el.pozo inacabado no se por donde se entraba por debajo, la gruta de la Virgen ni la encontré y como yo otros varios españoles y latinoamericanos con los que hablamos. Había cogido audio guía, la cual se colgaba cada poco tiempo y había que volver a iniciar, asi que muy mal funcionamiento. El pozo muy interesante ( lo que pude oír con la audioguia antes de colgarse) pero el.personal , solo metía prisa.para que pasemos sin poder hacer una foto tranquilos. El palacio muy bonito por dentro. Se pueden mejorar muchas cosas.

La Quinta da Regaleira è stata una delle esperienze più suggestive del nostro viaggio in Portogallo. Un luogo davvero particolare, dove palazzo, giardini, grotte, passaggi sotterranei e pozzi iniziatici si intrecciano creando un’atmosfera quasi magica. La parte che ci ha colpito di più è sicuramente il giardino: non è la classica visita a un palazzo, ma una vera esplorazione, con angoli nascosti e scenari completamente diversi man mano che si prosegue. Il Pozzo Iniziatico è spettacolare e vale assolutamente la visita. Consiglio di dedicare almeno 2-3 ore alla visita, indossando scarpe comode perché ci sono diversi sentieri, scalinate e passaggi da percorrere. Un luogo affascinante, originale e fuori dal comune, che merita sicuramente di essere inserito nell’itinerario di Sintra.

Pague por la Regaleira con audioguia..si bien es una app, pensé en un.momento era el.pago del servicio, con auriculares que nos daban en el lugar. TENERLO EN cuenta: llevar auriculares propios y tener carga en el celular, porque si andas todo el dia con el.maps google, te vas quedando a veces sin bateria, para hacer la visita a la tarde. YO LLEGue justo con todo ello, para poder ir escuchando. El lugar es hermoso..Apenas ingreses hace la fila.del.pozo de la.Iniciacion y luego pasea.por todo lo demás. SE LLENA..

La entrada fue rápida y sin esperar, las entradas las cogimos a primera hora que es cuando menos gente hay. Merece la pena pasear por los jardines de la Quinta regaleira y luego fuimos al Palacio Da Pena y paseamos por el entorno del palacio. Si te gusta el mobiliario hay una entrada con la visita a las estancias. Hay unos transfers que te llevan de Quinta regaleira al palacio da pena por 10 € por persona y te llevan de puerta a puerta.

The attraction may be crowded, so expect some waiting time, especially at the security checkpoint (15–20 minutes).

Your selected time slot is for entry to Pena Palace. Since it’s about a 30-minute walk from the park entrance to the palace, make sure to arrive early. Late arrivals may be denied entry.

Please use the house tour entrance instead of the main gate.

Private vehicles are not permitted, so visitors should use pedestrian trails or public transport.

About 30 km from Lisbon, Pena Palace sits in Sintra, where parking is available in the historic center or outer lots, though spaces can be limited.

The shuttle service covers round-trip transfers between the park entrance and Pena Palace.

Reduced tickets for children aged 6-18 and seniors aged 65 and above are available onsite.

Quinta da Regaleira

If you can, avoid driving into Sintra; the streets are narrow, parking is limited, and traffic can be challenging, especially in peak season.

Should you drive, park in Sintra town center and enjoy the 30-minute scenic walk to Quinta da Regaleira. Public transport is your best bet to get to Quinta stress-free.
