This was my first time booking with Headout. This was really easy and they did a good job providing email notifications so it was easy to find my tickets. It made the line smooth and reasonable tickets. The Jerónimo Monastery itself was breathtaking. Did not like the panhandlers outside but not the establishment's fault. The architecture was gorgeous and stunning and such a great experience. So many photo opportunities to capture the natural beauty. I would have loved to see more signage for people like me that did the self guided tour but otherwise had a great time. Would definitely use Headout again for future tickets.

My visit to Jerónimos Monastery was a wonderful and memorable experience. The place is truly beautiful, rich in history, and impressive in its architecture. Instructions before the visit were detailed and helpful. Arrival 30 minutes ahead if entry-time was perfect. Landmark is outstanding, remarkable artwork in stone, not too many people around, you could always go next to the object or part you wanted to visit. Most impressive for me we're the cloister and the chapter house, what wonderful arches! Mostly recommended for architecture lovers!

Very easy to use and book tickets on the website. Pdf of my tickets sent straight to my email. Would highly recommend booking in advance as tickets from the local booking office sell out fast for next day slots. Queues are long but they move well once your time slot is open. Fabulous architecture, worth a visit.

Had a great time and enjoyed the castle. Was easy to order. If I had a criticism it took about an hour for the tickets to come through from the time we ordered them, our group felt that was a bit long for an online order. Usually tickets are immediately sent when ordered on line. Otherwise was a good experience.

The monastery is just stunning - the architecture and celebration of the exploration and the role of the monastery in that past time was really well presented throughout. We went later in the afternoon and it was a lovely temperature and had wonderful light for photos at that time. The line was quite long and disorganised to get in, but it moved relatively quickly in the end.

Der Innenhof ist schon wirklich sehr schön mit toller Architektur, aber doch recht klein. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis hat für uns nicht gestimmt. Aber anscheinend ist auch gerade Restaurierung (Stand September 2026)

Jerónimos Monastery

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jerónimos Monastery stands as a masterpiece of Manueline architecture and a symbol of Portugal’s Age of Discovery. Built in the early 16th century, it’s renowned for its ornate cloisters and historical significance.

São Jorge Castle

Food and drinks are restricted in several areas, especially inside the Castle.

Pets are not allowed inside the Castle, except guide dogs with certification.

Accessibility

Jerónimos Monastery

The lower level is wheelchair accessible, but some areas have cobblestones.

Wheelchairs are available for rent at the entrance.

São Jorge Castle

St. George Castle has steep climbs and uneven paths, not ideal for mobility challenges.

Lisbon Cathedral

Lisbon Cathedral is not wheelchair accessible; stairs are required to reach key areas.

Jerónimos Monastery

The church is a part of Jerónimos Monastery and offers free entry, but you must join a separate line to enter.

The monastery is a crowd-puller, and wait times can stretch to 2 hours during peak hours. Plan smart: arrive early and book tickets online in advance.

Entry is free for Portugal residents on Sundays and public holidays, which often leads to larger crowds. If possible, plan your visit on another day.

The Jerónimos Monastery remains closed on Monday, 1st January, Easter Sunday, 1st May, and 25th December.

Children under 12 enter free with a valid ID at the gate.
