We enjoyed the tour of Jerónimos Monastery and has learned a lot about the history of Portugal and Jerónimos Monastery from our guide, Francisco. His knowledge of history was amazing and interesting, which made us never being tired through the tour. So right after the tour, we made another reservation for Sintra, Pena Palace, Cabo da Roca, Cascais & Quinta de Regaleira Full-Day Trip tomorrow. Thank you, Francisco, you made our day!

The history of the monastery (and its unexpected connection to pastel de nata) helped my time in Lisbon have layered meaning. Our guide (Dee) was wonderful, incredibly knowledgeable, really great with the young kids in our group, and even took our pictures if we wanted!! Jerónimos monastery was absolutely stunning and I think a priority to see while in Lisbon. It is one of the only buildings to survive the devastating 1755 earthquake in Lisbon. The skip the line was totally worth it (I could only go on a holiday Saturday and we got in very quickly). My tour guide, Joao, was excellent and was very knowledgeable about the Monastery and surrounding area. I also thought the visit to Pastéis de Belém (without any wait) was totally worth it to taste the historic pastery. I really enjoyed the entire tour!

The tour was absolutely fantastic! We skipped the line which is a real plus. Our guide Francisco was the best guide I've ever had in all of my trips. He was very knowledgeable, and he was transmitting the information in a very lively and interesting fashion. He had a very personal connection with the member of our group, even calling us by our names. It was a really wonderful experience and I recommend fais tour without hesitation. My name is Suzanne. Visitors are not allowed to photograph some parts of the monastery.

Keep in mind that food, beverages, large bags, or backpacks are not allowed on this experience.

Accessibility

The lower level is wheelchair accessible, but some areas have cobblestones.

Wheelchairs are available for rent at the entrance.

Additional information

Entry is free for Portuguese residents on Sundays and public holidays, which often leads to larger crowds. If possible, plan your visit on another day.

The Jerónimos Monastery remains closed on Monday, 1st January, Easter Sunday, 1st May, and 25th December.

Due to ongoing renovations, the Belém Tower is closed to visitors until the end of 2026.
