Visitare il Castello di Miramare ha representato per me realizzare il sogno di una vita! Camminare tra gli appartamenti dell'imperatore Massimiliano, nella sua riproduzione di una cambusa, tra intarsi, odore antico e ricordi mai sbiaditi dal tempo e' stato come fare un tuffo nel passato e per un attimo essere lì con loro. Autentici e meravigliosi i libri e le collezioni sulla botanica. Maestosa la sala in cui Massimiliano accoglieva i suoi dignitari. Grazie a tutti coloro che hanno reso possibile a tali ricordi di non svanire alle al crepuscolo di un impero.

Ci siamo stati al tramonto in una bellissima giornata di fine dicembre. Panorama stupendo sul golfo di Trieste. Abbiamo visitato sia il castello sia il parco, tutto ben tenuto e organizzato. Consigliamo vivamente di visitarlo. Prezzo congruo.

Had no idea what to do when our cruise arrived in Trieste but was delighted we took the decision to head out to Miramare via the tourist bus route. There are limited buses running - be warned, it's not like the hopon hopoff every 10-15 mins so you need to plan timings carefully. Our guide on the bus going out asked what time we'd be returning from Miramare so guaranteed us a seat for the return journey.

Visit a 19th-century clifftop castle built by Archduke Maximilian, overlooking the Gulf of Trieste.

Explore grand interiors like the red-silk throne room and Orientalist salons with an immersive audio guide.

Discover the castle’s museum, packed with exhibits on Habsburg history and aristocratic life.

Wander through landscaped gardens offering panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea.

Fun fact: Archduke Maximilian built Miramare Castle for his wife, Charlotte. After his death, rumors claimed that anyone who slept there was cursed to die young.

Step into the timeless elegance of Miramare Castle, a Habsburg retreat built between 1856 and 1860 for Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian and his wife, Charlotte. As you explore the graceful white castle overlooking the Gulf of Trieste, the 54-acre park surrounding it unfolds like a living collection of the archduke’s travels as an admiral, with exotic plants and scenic pathways.

Inside, wander through over 20 lavish rooms, from Maximilian’s Chambers to Charlotte’s Music Room, each steeped in 19th-century charm. The Gothic, Medieval, and Renaissance architectural styles blend seamlessly, with intricate furnishings capturing the era. Outside, the park invites you to explore restored stables, delicate greenhouses, and the enchanting ‘Castelletto’—a cozy castle-within-a-castle that retains touches of Austrian heritage.

What to bring

Bring cash with you, as there’s a souvenir shop inside the museum and a coffee shop in the garden.

What's not allowed

Large backpacks, bags, and umbrellas must be stored in the museum cloakroom.

Accessibility

Wheelchairs can be requested as needed.

An elevator is available for visitors with mobility challenges to access the upper floor.

Please note that benches are not located along the tour path.

Additional information

The first Sunday of each month is free for all visitors.

Dogs are allowed inside the castle if they wear a muzzle or are carried or in a carrier.

You can't take photos inside the castle.

Your voucher will be emailed to you shortly.
