Travel across eastern Japan with unlimited rides on JR East Lines, Tokyo Monorail, and more for 5 consecutive days.
Getting started
Begin by presenting your voucher with the reservation number and your original passport at a designated JR East service counter in Japan. After your documents are verified, you’ll receive your JR EAST PASS, which is valid for five consecutive days from your chosen start date. Use your pass at automatic ticket gates to access trains and buses within the covered area.
What to expect
JR EAST PASS network
This pass opens up a wide network of trains and select buses, connecting major cities, airports, and scenic regions across eastern Japan.
-
Enjoy unlimited rides on JR East Lines, including Shinkansen, Limited Express, Express, and local trains (including Rapid trains), making it easy to reach destinations from Tokyo to the Tohoku region.
-
Travel on all Tokyo Monorail lines, linking central Tokyo with Haneda Airport, and access Aoimori Railway lines, IGR Iwate Galaxy Railway lines, Sanriku Railway lines, Hokuetsu Express lines, Echigo TOKImeki Railway (between Naoetsu and Arai), and Sendai Airport Transit lines.
-
Reserved and non-reserved seats are available in ordinary cars, allowing you to secure a seat on busy routes or hop on and off local trains as you wish.
-
Your pass also covers JR Bus Tohoku and JR Bus Kanto (excluding highway bus routes and certain specific routes), expanding your travel options beyond the rail network.
Special connections and flexibility
The pass is designed for seamless travel, whether you’re exploring cities, rural areas, or coastal lines.
-
Use reserved seats on limited express trains that run directly between JR East Lines and Tobu Railway Lines, such as the Nikko, SPACIA Nikko, Kinugawa, and SPACIA Kinugawa services.
-
Non-reserved seats are available on local trains between Shimo-imaichi and Tobu-Nikko/Kinugawa-Onsen on the Tobu Railway Lines, giving you access to popular sightseeing spots.
-
Hop on and off as you explore, with the flexibility to plan your route each day within the five-day period.
Wrapping up
If you wish to travel in Green Cars (First Class) or Gran Class, additional charges apply and are payable locally. The JR EAST PASS does not cover the Tokaido Shinkansen or areas outside the specified network, so check your route in advance to avoid extra fees. At the end of your five-day period, simply exit through the automatic ticket gates—no further action is required.
