Mombasa Guided City Tour Experience

Getting started

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Mombasa or a nearby area at around 9am. Travel through the city in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle while your guide introduces you to Mombasa's history and culture.

Your first major stop is Fort Jesus, followed by a guided walk through Old Town and visits to the city's lively street and spice markets.

What to expect

• Fort Jesus: Begin your sightseeing at Fort Jesus, the iconic 16th-century Portuguese fort overlooking the Indian Ocean. Explore the historic site and learn about Mombasa's role in the region's maritime and colonial history. Spend around 50 minutes at the fort.

• Old Town: Continue with a guided walk through Mombasa's historic Old Town. See narrow streets, Swahili-style architecture and intricately carved wooden doors while learning about the city's Arab, Portuguese and British influences.

• Street Market: Visit a lively local street market and see where residents shop for fresh produce and everyday goods. You'll also have time to browse local handicrafts and souvenirs.

• Spice Market: Head to the Marikiti/Mackinnon Market, one of Mombasa's best-known markets. Take in the aromas of spices, herbs, fruits and vegetables while your guide explains local ingredients and traditions. You'll also have the chance to taste local snacks.

• Tuk Tuk Ride: Experience a Tuk Tuk ride from the market towards the Mombasa Tusks, adding a local mode of transport to your city sightseeing.

• Mombasa Tusks: Stop at the famous Mombasa Tusks, one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. Take photos and learn about the significance of the monument.

• Mama Ngina Waterfront & Baobab Park: Continue by Tuk Tuk to Mama Ngina Waterfront. Take a break by the coast, enjoy views across the water and explore the surrounding Baobab Park before your return transfer.

• Return to your hotel: After the sightseeing and market visits, travel back to your hotel in a comfortable vehicle.
