The Jim Henson Company: Make, Believe, Magic at QAGOMA was absolutely amazing! My partner and I loved every minute of it. It took us on a nostalgic journey back to our childhoods, bringing back so many wonderful memories of the characters and stories we grew up with. From Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock to the incredible worlds of The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, it was magical to see Jim Henson’s creativity, imagination and extraordinary talent celebrated in such a beautiful way. We genuinely felt like kids again, and it reminded us of the joy, wonder and magic that these characters brought into our lives. An unforgettable experience that we would highly recommend to anyone, young or old.

After a delayed bus trip and train connection to GOMA we regrettably missed the shows. Thankfully the entry was still smooth with the flexi ticket and we were able to come and go from the exhibit. I really needed more time to listen to the sound recordings and history behind the fascinating design and construction of the puppets. I loved to see the drawing boards and initial sketched ideas as I'm also a designer and artist. I till many photos to share on Facebook of this incredible experience.

Jim Henson's incredible creativity on full display via extensive display of puppets, sets, video, explanatory posters and audio. Granddaughters aged 17 and 12 loved the exhibition and especially making sock puppets and a video with their puppets. Not overly crowded.

To remember a time when life was fun for my children, how they would get excited about watching Fraggle rock or the Muppets. Life was easy back then for them, l wanted my children to remember how to enjoy the joy of life

Make, Believe, Magic: The Worlds of The Jim Henson Company at GOMA This exhibition is the most comprehensive showcase of The Jim Henson Company’s creations ever assembled, spanning iconic television, film, and stage productions.

Gallery 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and River Room: Move through these galleries to see hundreds of objects, including practical puppets, animatronic creatures, sets, props, costumes, original drawings, and moving image clips from productions such as Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Farscape, and Sesame Street.

Walk among world-first set installations, including the Great Hall from Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock, and view detailed production elements that reveal the artistry behind beloved characters like Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Gobo, and the Goblin King.

Access to all exhibition galleries is included with your ticket, allowing you to explore at your own pace and revisit favorite sections throughout your visit.

Australian Cinémathèque exclusive cinema program Your ticket grants you access to a curated cinema program featuring over 90 films. Screenings highlight The Jim Henson Company’s productions and the work of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, with selections from classic and contemporary titles.

Attend film sessions showcasing the evolution of puppetry, animatronics, and digital effects in storytelling, with screenings scheduled throughout the exhibition period.

Explore themed film blocks, including Screened to be Believed, Where the Wild Things Are Made, and Beyond Henson, each offering a different perspective on puppetry and world cinema.

The Sock Puppet Studio (during Queensland school holidays) During Queensland school holidays, all ages are welcome to participate in The Sock Puppet Studio from 10am to 3:30pm.

Become both builder and performer in this hands-on activity inspired by The Jim Henson Company’s approach to character creation using everyday materials.

The studio is open daily during the school holiday period, providing an interactive space for visitors to craft their own sock puppets and experiment with performance techniques.

Additional information

The exhibition runs from 12 September 2026 to 18 April 2027 at the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), Brisbane, and is open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm, with the last session at 4:00pm.

The venue is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and Good Friday.

The Sock Puppet Studio operates daily during Queensland school holidays from 10:00am to 3:30pm, and all ages are welcome to participate.

Meals, refreshments, transport to and from the venue, and accommodation are not included unless you book a special package offer.

Tickets should be purchased in advance to guarantee entry, but may also be available at the door unless sold out.

There are no specific age or health restrictions for this experience.
