Very well looked after by the staff our pilot Adrian was very good and took his time to ensure we all had a great experience Great flight over mountain Cook with plenty of time to take in the sights the landing on the snow was a highlight highly recommended

This was a phenomenal experience, given the safety briefing and then watched as the helicopter landed. We took off and from start to finish I had a huge smile on my face. We got to see the glaciers and then landed on it, we had beautiful sunshine and the most surreal moment of the peace , beauty and serenity. If you do one trip this I promise will be a memory you will treasure for a lifetime .

The helicopter flight and landing on the glazier was just awesome with breathtaking views. The pilot was very knowledgeable and friendly and great with his instructions and taking photos. Very hard to describe the scenary. I must do experience. The movie experience on site is also very worthwhile to do.

Great thrill. Stunning views on a blue sky day. Felt safe with the pilot and ground crew. Liked the way we changed seats around on the trip back so everyone had a great view.

Absolutely fantastic! Not only to ride in a helicopter but up into the glacier with a snow landing. It seemed cloudy from the ground but the pilot found his way through a hole in the cloud and we were in a different world of snow, ice and blue skies! Even so we sadly couldn't get to Mt Cook but that don't detract one iota. An unmissable experience. I'd result do it again and again...

Getting started

This experience includes a 40-minute helicopter flight departing from Franz Josef or Fox Glacier township. Arrive early to check in, receive a safety briefing, and meet your pilot before take-off.

What to expect

Aerial views: Enjoy wide-ranging views of twin glaciers, rugged mountain terrain, and dramatic glacier valleys as you fly through the heart of the Southern Alps.

Snow landing: Step onto pristine glacier snow for photos and time to take in the crisp alpine surroundings.

Pilot commentary: Hear fascinating insights about the region’s glaciers and landscapes through live narration from your knowledgeable pilot.

What to bring

Bring along your warm upper-body clothing (preferably 3-4 layers), leggings or light trousers, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

What's not allowed

Selfie sticks and drones are not allowed on this experience.

Please avoid using iPads for photography during flights as they can obstruct views. Feel free to use phones, cameras, or GoPros instead.

Jeans are not recommended for this experience as they become very heavy, cold and uncomfortable to wear when wet.

Additional information

Snow landings are subject to weather conditions and are at the pilot’s discretion.

Infants under 3 years weighing less than 15 kg will fly for free, sitting on an adult's lap. Infants under 3 years weighing above 15 kg must be charged at the child fare.
