From Muscat: Wahiba Desert & Wadi Bani Khalid Guided Group Tour

Full-day guided group tour from Muscat combining Wahiba Sands 4x4 desert adventure with a swim-friendly visit to Wadi Bani Khalid.

Getting started

Your day begins with hotel pickup in Muscat, where you meet your professional English-speaking guide and join the group in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. The drive takes you out of the city toward the interior, with your guide sharing context on Omani landscapes and culture as you head toward the desert and oasis.

Wahiba Sands desert 4x4 experience

What to expect

You arrive at Wahiba Sands, where the terrain shifts to rolling dunes and the 4x4 off-road experience begins. The driver navigates the sand in a dedicated desert section, giving you time to watch the changing colors of the dunes and pause for photos from panoramic viewpoints.

Features

• Take part in a 4x4 off-road experience in Wahiba Sands, as the vehicle climbs and descends the dunes for a controlled taste of desert driving.
• Your professional English-speaking guide is on hand to explain local Bedouin life, answer questions, and coordinate all scheduled sightseeing stops as per the itinerary.
• Bottled water is provided during the tour so you can stay hydrated throughout the desert section.

Traditional Omani lunch

What to expect

After your time among the dunes, the group stops at a local restaurant for a midday break. This is your chance to refuel and sample regional specialties in a relaxed indoor setting before continuing to the wadi.

Features

• Enjoy a traditional Omani lunch at a local restaurant, with vegetarian options available so you can choose a meal that suits your preferences.
• Your guide and driver remain with the group, providing assistance throughout the tour and coordinating the onward journey to Wadi Bani Khalid.

Wadi Bani Khalid oasis and swimming

What to expect

The tour continues to Wadi Bani Khalid, a palm-fringed valley with clear pools and rocky edges. You have free time here for swimming in the natural water or exploring the surroundings at your own pace.

Features

• Visit Wadi Bani Khalid with free time for swimming and exploration, from walking along the pools to finding viewpoints over the canyon-like scenery.
• If you wish to swim, you can bring your own gear or rent swimming gear and a life jacket at Wadi Bani Khalid for an additional cost, with optional waterproof phone cases available for purchase.

Sunset option over Wahiba Sands (selected variant only)

What to expect

If you choose the "Guided Group Tour with Wahiba Sands Sunset 4x4 and Wadi Bani Khalid Visit" variant, the itinerary is timed so you experience the desert in the late afternoon and early evening. The dunes gradually shift to softer light, creating an extended golden-hour period.

Features

• Take in sunset views over Wahiba Sands dunes, watching the low sun highlight the ridgelines and cast long shadows across the sand.
• Your professional English-speaking guide and assistance remain included throughout, with hotel pickup and drop-off in Muscat also part of this sunset-focused variant.
