Pena Palace Review The Ticketing and Entry Experience: Gaining access to Pena Palace using the Headout app was exceptionally efficient. Purchasing in advance allowed me to completely bypass the physical ticket queues, saving a significant amount of time. At the main entrance, I simply displayed the digital voucher on my smartphone. The staff scanned the QR code immediately, making the entire entry process paperless, fast, and completely stress-free. The Palace and Grounds: The architectural impact of the palace is highly impressive, with its vivid colours and intricate 19th-century detailing. The exterior terraces provide excellent, unobstructed vantage points over the Sintra hills. The interior rooms are well-preserved and offer a direct look into the history of the Portuguese monarchy. Beyond the palace itself, the surrounding park spans over 200 hectares and is well worth the time. The forested trails leading to points of interest like the Chalet of the Countess of Edla and the High Cross viewpoint are well-maintained and offer a quieter environment away from the main crowds. Practical Logisticss: The specific time slot on your mobile ticket dictates your entry to the palace interior, not the main park gate. The uphill walk from the park entrance to the palace takes approximately 30 minutes. Navigation: Pena Palace is located roughly 30 kilometres from Lisbon. Private vehicles are prohibited from accessing the entrance, so you must utilize public transport, a rideshare, or a local transfer service from Sintra's historic centre. Preparation: The terrain features steep inclines and uneven cobblestones. Sturdy, functional walking shoes are strictly necessary.

Arriving at the train station, we were approached by several drivers offering to take us on a tour to the castle and beyond. They seem a reasonable option if going gor a full tour. As we just wanted to visit the castle, we used bolt instead. At Pena Castle, booking online saved us from joining the long queue. Remember to buy your shuttle bus tickets at the ticket office (NOT available on the shuttle) if you don't want to make the 10-15 minutes steep climb upto the castle. The Pena Castle experience was fantastic, with a unique combination of Islamic and Christian influences interwoven into the architectural designs. Walking down the garden, pass the lakes offered a calming experience after the crowded castle. There were huge trees to hug and numerous small animals to admire! The duck houses and large goldfishes were awesome. We got to ride a 64-year-old Portuguese war jeep, €30 for 7 people without much haggling, back to the train station, which was an unforgettable experience! Overall, a memorable, unique, fun experience for the family!

The park is very beautiful. Unfortunately we only had time to tour the palace. Be warned, the walk through the park is very hilly. I walk a lot due to my work and hobbies and had no issues. My wife has knee trouble and had to take several breaks. We parked well outside the park, and were able to secure a ride to a free access trail that led to the Palace. When leaving there were plenty of tuktuks near the entrance to the Castle of the Moors, and we rented one to deliver us back to our car. Both rides were safe and affordable. The park provides access to an audio and text guidebook through a QR code linked website. No disrespect to human guides, but if you're on a budget, the provided guide audio/book was more than sufficient to understand what we were looking at inside the palace. There is a cafe in the palace itself. The sandwiches were fresh if plain, and once again prices were reasonable.

This is one of the best and most affordable day trips I've ever taken. Just a short train ride from Lisbon, uber up to the entrance to Peña Palace, and then a beautiful hike from Peña to Quinta Da Regaleira allowed us to hit them both in the same day right after another. Peña felt like a fairytale and Quinta Da Regaleira felt like you aren't supposed to fully understand everything about it, which was the coolest thing ever. Highly recommend this day trip, as I will likely be back!

Booking was easy as was getting the app so there were no issues for the staff scanning our tickets. No problems with line-ups since we'd bought special tickets. We had a perfect day strolling through the palace and throughout the park .. it was magic, majestic and magnificent. We're so happy that we ended our Portugal trip with a trip to Pena Palace. Wish there had been available tickets for the wishing well - perhaps next time. Thank you :)

Es de los mejores lugares que he conocido en Portugal cada vez que pasas por los pasillos de fuera sientes como si estuvieras dentro de una película o incluso como si la vivieras, los colores, los diseños y todo en general fue algo muy divertido, impresionante y claro algo muy lindo. Lo recomiendo totalmente. Si alguna vez viene a Sintra no pueden perderse al Palacio da Pena por nada del mundo.
