Casa Vicens
The world-famous architect Antoni Gaudí created the modernist Casa Vicens in Barcelona, Spain, a prime example of Gaudí’s early work. The outside design of the building is a fusion of classical Catalan and Islamic styles. Various organic shapes and curvy lines are used in the colorful ceramic mosaics that adorn the facade. Asymmetrical in the plan, the structure has undulating lines, rounded forms, and a rich palette of materials. Stained glass windows, bright ceramic tiles, and elaborate plasterwork adorn the building's interior. Casa Vicens was originally built as a summer retreat for the Vicens family and is now known as a masterpiece of Gaudí.
Casa Batlló
The Casa Batlló is another must-visit modernist structure by Gaudí. The structure is a prime illustration of his refined architectural style. The building's signature feature is a skylight above the courtyard in the middle of the structure.
