Easy to book, smooth entry, and seamless transition to the actual Castle and Ramparts! The Castle itself is really nice. We opted for the extra audio tour after we arrvied which was worth the 4 euro pp - at least in the Castle section. Feel free to hop off of the Ramparts midway through if needed, especially if you are taking the tour during lunch time. Places in the city fill up fast and are only (usually) open from 12-2pm!

Booking worked out. The link to start the activity does not match the reality, the entrance to the castle is about 50 m away around the corner. Our ticket had a fixed time for entering, we showed up 30 minutes earlier, this was no problem. The tour is nice, the castle and the interior is in good shape, the walk around the town on the wall is amazing. All in all a must, if you are around Carcassone.

J'ai aime' la visite è la promenade sur les remparts. Malheureusement il faisait tres froid et il y avait un fort vent , donc je n'ai pas pu rester pour longtemps

Carcassonne ist toll und einen Besuch wert, keine Frage. Wir haben am Abend vorher die Tickets online gekauft, 2x mit jeweils Audioguide. Der Audioguide wird allerdings per Smartphone zur Verfügung gestellt, da wir nur 1 Handy dabei hatten, haben wir quasi für einen Audioguide bezahlt, den wir nicht nutzen konnten. Die Öffnungszeiten bis 17 Uhr gelten leider nicht für die Toilette, die wurde bereits um 16:45 Uhr geschlossen!

What to bring

It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes for the day-long tour.

Carry headphones and ensure your smartphone is charged.

Activate and download the tour in advance as there may be no Wi-Fi and a weak mobile signal at the starting point.

What’s not allowed

Pets are not permitted, except for service animals.

Smoking is prohibited inside the castle.

Scooters, bicycles, helmets, non-folding strollers, and bulky luggage are not permitted inside the Château Comtal or along the ramparts.

This experience may not be fully accessible for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility.

Additional information

Entry is free for disabled guests with an accompanying adult, jobseekers (on presentation of a certificate less than 6 months old), and holders of a valid education pass or culture pass.

Carcassonne Castle offers free admission on select days, including the European Heritage Days on 20 & 21 September 2025, and on the first Sunday of January, February, March, November, and December.

To avoid large crowds at the entrance, it is recommended to arrive 1 hour after the monument opens.

The museum will remain closed for safety reasons.
