Witness a heart-rending tale of a grieving couple who attempt to deflect the truth about their deceased son. Based on Horton Foote’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, the powerful play follows the rags to riches story of a couple that quickly turns into a nightmare.
Originally written in 1995 by Horton Foote, the original production went on to win a Pulitzer Prize for drama the very same year. It premiered at the Signature Theatre Off-Broadway and went on to be transferred to Broadway in 1997. The play was critically acclaimed for its emotionally satisfying plot, the exquisite acting, and flawless staging. Director Michael Wilson is a multiple Emmy nominee and has won numerous awards over a career spanning more than 20 years. He is best known for Tony-winning plays such as The Trip to Bountiful, and Tony-nominated Gore Vidal’s The Best Man and Dividing the Estate. Often praised for his ability to bring the production to life with his excellent use of staging and characters, Wilson is all set to astound audiences with his adaptation of Foote’s classic tale. Catch an unforgettable evening of dazzling performances, as you see the play revived at Broadway!
The Story
Will Kidder is working at a large-scale wholesale grocery firm for more than 40 years. He has recently moved to a new house in Houston, along with his wife Lily. Will, however, is let go from his job. Will then talks about their son Bill, who moved to Atlanta and had drowned nearly six months ago. While Will suspects that Bill had committed suicide, Lily refuses to entertain such thoughts and believes that he died due to an unfortunate accident. Randy Carter, Bill’s roommate from Atlanta, wants to meet Will, who is of the opinion that Randy is only after money. What does Randy want to discuss with Will? Was there another side to Bill that his parents refused to acknowledge that ultimately led to his demise? Can they escape the inevitable reckoning?
