From Salzburg: Berchtesgaden Salt Mine & Original Sound of Music Guided Tour

Explore Salzburg's original Sound of Music locations with a Sound of Music themed guided tour plus skip-the-line entry to Berchtesgaden Salt Mine.

Getting started

Begin your day in Salzburg, where you join the guided experience that combines filming locations from the original Sound of Music with a visit to Berchtesgaden. Your guide introduces the Sound of Music themed guided tour and outlines the schedule. Remember to bring a current valid passport or ID card, as it is required for travel into Germany and entry to the salt mine.

What to expect

Original Sound of Music locations

This part of the day focuses on sites connected to the original Sound of Music, with your guide leading a themed exploration from Salzburg toward the Berchtesgaden region. You follow a route shaped by the movie, while also crossing into the alpine landscape on the way to the salt mine.

Features

• The Sound of Music themed guided tour links Salzburg with the Berchtesgaden area, so you can connect the city and countryside settings used in the original film while hearing context from your guide.

• Your guide structures the itinerary and commentary around the Sound of Music themed guided tour format, which means you do not need to plan logistics between Salzburg and Berchtesgaden yourself.

Berchtesgaden Salt Mine

Near the German town of Berchtesgaden, the Berchtesgaden Salt Mine is the final major stop of the experience. Here the focus shifts from film locations to the region’s salt-mining heritage, with time allocated to explore the interior after entry.

Features

• Your skip-the-line entry to Berchtesgaden Salt Mine, provided as a skip-the-line salt mines ticket, allows you to bypass the regular ticket queue at the mine and proceed more quickly toward the entrance procedures.

• The interior visit builds on the journey from Salzburg and Berchtesgaden, giving you time inside the Berchtesgaden Salt Mine itself after using your skip-the-line entry to Berchtesgaden Salt Mine for access.
