Arrive at the Denali or Fairbanks station in time for your scheduled departure and have your ticket ready for boarding. Make your way to your reserved seat and prepare for your winter rail journey. Checked baggage service is available at the Anchorage, Talkeetna, and Fairbanks depots only.

Accessibility

Wheelchair access: The train is wheelchair accessible. Platforms are plowed, but some stops are remote drop-off areas where temperatures can fall as low as -40°F. Guests using wheelchairs should arrange destination assistance ahead of time.

What’s not allowed

Smoking: Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the train cars.

Adventure Class: Your ticket includes a reserved seat in Adventure Class, with single-level railcars, forward-facing reclining seats, generous legroom, and storage space.

Station details: Your booking confirmation will provide the relevant check-in and boarding information for your departure station.

Baggage: Checked baggage is handled at the Anchorage, Talkeetna, and Fairbanks depots only. At other stops, the onboard conductor and supervisor assist with luggage and boarding.

Dining: Dining cars are available on all Alaska Railroad trains except the Hurricane Turn Train. Meals and beverages can be purchased separately and are not included in your ticket.

Winter schedule: Winter service operates on weekends through January, while February and March include select midday departures.

Weather: Severe weather can lead to train cancellations. Check the forecast before your journey and make sure Alaska Railroad has a working phone number and email address for every guest so they can contact you about service changes.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR GUESTS TRAVELLING TO DENALI OR HEALY

Winter access: Denali National Park and Healy are especially remote during winter, with no heated public depots or regular ground transportation available.

Arrange transportation: Organize your onward journey to and from Denali or Healy before you travel. Do not rely on finding a taxi or rideshare after arrival.

Secure accommodation: Book your lodging in advance, as accommodation options around Denali are limited during the winter season.

Plan for remote conditions: Winter travel to this area requires advance planning because of limited services, darkness, and severe cold.

Heated staffed stations: Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Talkeetna are the only stops with heated depots and staff. Other stations are remote, so arrange your onward transportation in advance.

Denali arrival: The train drop-off is located inside Denali National Park. During winter, the area has very limited activity beyond park service operations, and the main highway is approximately 2 miles away.

Where to stay: Hotels are located in Healy, around a 10-minute drive from the Denali drop-off. Arrange your transfer before arriving.

Local transportation: There are no Uber or taxi services at Denali or Healy, and there is no practical walkable road connection from the Denali drop-off. Temperatures can fall to -40°F to -50°F, with limited daylight during winter.
