Since Denali is a remote winter destination, plan your arrival carefully and arrange transportation and lodging before departure.

Accessibility

Wheelchair access: Wheelchair access is available onboard the train. Although platforms are plowed, some stops are remote drop-off areas where temperatures may fall to -40°F. Guests using wheelchairs should arrange assistance at their destination in advance.

Smoking: Smoking is prohibited throughout all train cars.

Winter timetable: Services operate on weekends through January, with selected midday departures in February and March. Check the available departure options for your travel date.

Weather updates: Severe weather may cause delays or cancellations. Check the forecast before travelling and ensure Alaska Railroad has a working phone number and email address for every guest so it can communicate service changes.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR GUESTS TRAVELLING TO DENALI OR HEALY

Remote winter conditions: Denali National Park and Healy have no heated depots or public ground transportation during winter. Services are limited, so plan your arrival before setting out.

Arrange transportation in advance: Organize your onward journey to and from Denali or Healy before travelling. Uber and taxi services are unavailable at these locations.

Book accommodation beforehand: Winter lodging options around Denali are limited. Hotels in Healy are approximately a 10-minute drive from the Denali train drop-off, so arrange a transfer before arrival.

Know which stations have facilities: Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Talkeetna are the only stops with heated, staffed depots. Other stops may be remote drop-off points without comparable facilities.

Understand the Denali drop-off location: The train drops passengers inside Denali National Park. Winter activity is very limited beyond park service operations, and the main highway is approximately 2 miles away.

Prepare for extreme cold: Temperatures around Denali and Healy can reach -40°F to -50°F, and daylight is limited. Do not assume that you can walk to your accommodation or find local transportation after arriving.
