Énormément de queue pour accéder à la basilique, mais notre super guide Sam nous a parlé pendant tout le temps d'attente, au moins 100 minutes, et n'a commencé le décompte horaire de sa visite qu'après avoir pénétré place Saint Pierre. Sa visite était particulièrement intéressante et complète, merci Sam. Ensuite il a fallu qu'il gère un autre groupe et nous a laissé avec le groupe des espagnols pour accéder au Dôme. Nous avons fait à nouveau environ 2 heures de queue et lorsque nous sommes arrivés en bas de l'ascenseur, la guide espagnole s'est volatilisée et nous ne l'avons plus revue. Elle ne nous a servi finalement qu'à acheter les billets, ce que nous aurions pu faire sans elle. Sam mérite facilement à lui tout seul les 5 étoiles.

Cette visite en français de la basilique saint pierre a été très réussie, principalement grâce à notre guide Pierre qui nous a apporté de nombreux détails pour comprendre les origines et l'essence même de la basilique. Pierre est un guide passionné qui aime partager sa connaissance approfondie sur l'édifice et sa passion se ressent. Il explique très bien en français malgré que cela n'est pas sa langue maternelle. Lors du second passage dans la basilique, après la visite guidée, on admire et ressent les lieux d'une toute autre manière, un peu moins néophyte. Nous recommandons cette visite et remercions encore Pierre pour ses explications d'une très grande qualité. Top.

Excellente expérience avec Sam qui est un guide hors pair. A cause d'une foule immense, empêchant l'accès à la basilique le dimanche (pour cause de canonisation), il a gentillement proposé de la décaler au lendemain pour que nous puissions en profiter. Il est riche d'enseignements et fait bien attention à ce que son groupe reste au complet malgré la foule. Il fait participer et rend l'expérience encore plus vivante. La visite du dôme est la cerise sur le gâteau, nous ne regrettons pas. Il ne faut pas avoir peur des couloirs étroits et penchés ! Quelle vue incroyable sur le Vatican! Comme toujours il y a foule... Il faut être patient dans les files d'attente.

Our visit to St. Peter’s Basilica with Dome Access on November 26, 2025 was truly unforgettable. We were a group of four—two adults and our children, ages nine and four—and each of us was impressed from start to finish. The basilica’s interior felt breathtakingly grand, and even the kids were captivated by its beauty and history. Climbing to the dome was the highlight: challenging at moments but absolutely worth it for the sweeping views over Vatican City and Rome. The entire experience felt inspiring, peaceful, and perfectly organized. It’s a must-do for families visiting Rome.

I loved this! Sam the guide got the pace right and was full of information. He focused on architecture and the art opposed to the religious aspects all the time and when he did they were well placed...after all we're in the vatican. Explained how to go through the holy door if we wanted to but there was no pressure. Lift was broken for the basilica but the host got us to the stairs and was helpful with his info. Ie the queue for the substitute lift was over an hour. But he was not pushy about us using the stairs...we chose to.

St Pieter's is truly spectacular, really enjoyed the visit, I was worried about the queues but it was actually fine on the day and we were able to even get in early! However the audioguide which was something you could access through your own phone was really not good, it didn't work at all on my phone. It was ok on my husband's phone but it was hard to find where we were supposed to go to view the different parts featured in the guide. In the end we gave up!

What to bring

A valid photo ID or passport is required for security checks.

Wear comfortable walking shoes—expect stairs and long stretches on foot.

Dress modestly: both men and women must cover shoulders and knees. Sleeveless tops, shorts above the knee, and miniskirts are not allowed.

Bring your own earphones/headphones to use the digital audio guide on your smartphone.

What’s not allowed

Large bags, backpacks, suitcases, and luggage are not permitted inside the Basilica or Dome.

No flash photography, food, drinks, glass items, or smoking on the premises.

Animals are not allowed, except registered service animals.

There is no cloakroom service.

After 6pm, access to the Vatican Grottoes and explanations inside the Basilica are restricted.

Accessibility

This experience is not wheelchair accessible.

The Dome climb involves 551 steep, narrow stairs and confined spaces. It is not suitable for infants, pregnant individuals, or visitors with mobility concerns, heart conditions, vertigo, or claustrophobia.

The elevator only reaches the terrace—an additional 320 steps are required to reach the summit.

Minimum recommended age for the Dome climb is 6; all minors up to 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Additional information

All guests must pass through airport-style security. During peak season, lines may exceed 30 minutes—arrive 15–45 minutes early.

The Dome and roof terrace may close in bad weather.

Entry to St. Peter’s Basilica and the Dome may be suspended without notice due to religious ceremonies or Vatican events. If this happens, suitable alternatives will be arranged.

The special access passage between the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica is closed on Wednesdays and during major events like Easter. In such cases, your guide will take you to the Pinacoteca Gallery instead.

QR codes for entry and audio guide activation are required—check your email (and spam folder) before arrival.

No refunds or date changes are allowed in case of visitor cancellations or closures due to religious events.

All visitors must pass through security checks at the Basilica. Please allow for wait times of up to an hour, as this may extend the overall tour duration.
