Divided into 5 zones, Malta National Aquarium houses 41 tanks dedicated to indigenous and exotic species, reptiles, amphibians, and replicas of shipwrecks worldwide. In Zone 1, you’ll find Mediterranean species like the scorpionfish and skates that tend to hide beneath the sand. There is also a replica of the HMS Stubborn, a submarine that was used in WWII. Zone 2 displays a beautiful combination of color and diversity from the bottom to the surface, while Zone 3 offers a glimpse of the tropical oceans. Zone 4 has the replica of an ancient ghost shipwreck, along with species found at great depths in the Mediterranean Sea like moray eels and amberjacks. Zone 5, in addition to thriving freshwater life, depicts beautiful scenes of Malta’s sister islands Gozo and Comino. The reptiles and amphibian area houses interesting invertebrates from all over the world, including poison dart frogs, snakes, and leopard geckos.

The Malta Experience

The Malta Experience is an audio-visual spectacle that informs and engages you with a 45-minute journey of the island’s turbulent past. Settle in a plush seat at St. Elmo Bastions, take your pick from 17 languages, and learn about the Roman invasion, events under British rule, and more.

As an add-on, you have the English-guided tour of the Holy Infirmary that was established by the Knights of St John. As famous as the knights were for their military exploits, their origins lay in peace and healing the sick. The tour will enlighten you about their noble efforts and interesting anecdotes about the place, such as the fact that the Great Ward was once Europe’s longest hospital ward.
