Honestly, walking into the Colosseum for the first time completely knocked me sideways. You step through that archway and it's like the modern world just shuts off. I just remember tilting my head back and feeling totally dwarfed by the walls. The light is all dusty and golden, filtering in through the broken upper levels, and it hits you that this place is over 2,000 years old. You're not looking at a ruin, you're standing inside a giant, weathered skeleton. My first thought was, "How on earth did they even build this?" Then we climbed up to the second tier, and the view completely changes. Now you're up high, looking out across the arena floor, and you realise you're packed in with tourists from every corner of the planet. It's this weird, chaotic mix of languages, people jostling for railing space, phones held up everywhere. But instead of being annoying, it actually felt kind of fitting. Like, this was always a place for crowds, right? We were all just the latest version of that, all of us craning our necks and going "wow" at the same time. You look past the ruin and see the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill in the distance, and for a second you forget you're in a crowd at all. You're just another person, thousands of years later, completely awestruck by the same view. But the real gut-punch came when I looked straight down. Leaning over the edge and seeing the hypogeum, those underground tunnels and cages, gave me actual chills. There's no marble or glamour down there, just raw, heavy brickwork and dark, cramped spaces where the animals and gladiators waited before their fights. You start picturing it, the chains, the nervous energy, the roaring from above. It felt so real, so brutally human. That's the part that stuck with me the most, not the grandeur, but looking into those dark pits and knowing that was where people spent their final, terrifying moments. It was haunting, but in a way that made the whole visit unforgettable.

A visita aos Museus do Vaticano e à Capela Sistina foi uma das experiências mais marcantes da minha viagem. Fiquei impressionado com a quantidade de obras de arte, esculturas e pinturas, todas muito bem preservadas e cheias de história. Apesar de haver muitos visitantes, foi possível apreciar a beleza dos espaços. O momento mais especial foi entrar na Capela Sistina e ver ao vivo os famosos frescos de Michelangelo. É uma sensação difícil de descrever e muito diferente de os ver apenas em fotografias. Todo o ambiente transmite uma grande importância histórica e cultural. Recomendo esta visita a qualquer pessoa que passe por Roma, pois é um local único que vale realmente a pena conhecer. Além disso, a visita fez-me compreender melhor a importância da arte e da história na cultura europeia, tornando a experiência ainda mais enriquecedora e memorável.

Visiting Vatican City was an unforgettable experience. Even if you're not particularly religious, the history, art, and architecture are simply breathtaking. St. Peter's Basilica is absolutely stunning, with incredible details both inside and out, and climbing to the top of the dome rewards you with spectacular views over Rome. The Vatican Museums are immense and filled with masterpieces, ending with the world-famous Sistine Chapel, where Michelangelo's ceiling is even more impressive in person than in photos. The atmosphere throughout Vatican City is unique, combining centuries of history with a sense of peace and importance. I would recommend arriving early in the morning to avoid the largest crowds and to fully enjoy the experience. A must-visit for anyone traveling to Rome.

Was great ! Definitely was worth as avoided standing in long queues. One thing you should bare in mind that of you buy ticket with time access to Basilica and the Dome, you have 1.5 hrs till entering, so if you are a museum person it might not be enough for you. You don't need ID anymore, unlike Colosseum, but bring it just in case maybe. It's worth paying for St. Peter Basilica, because for online tickets there almost was no queue. For Dome, it's elevator access up to certain level. And then it's a quite hard and narrow staircase up, so small kids and people with breathing problems might want to think before climbing the Dome, but level where elevator takes you, is no problem and view of the Dome is nice, but can't see the square from it. Was worth the money spent, overall.

Eine sehr gute Vorbereitung: ich wurde aktiv angesprochen, als ich den Treffpunkt suchte. Ich war viel zu früh am Cafe in der Mitte des Platzes, bekam aber sofort den Link mit dem Audioguide. Kopfhörer hatte ich nicht, aber bekam die guten, klaren Texte in deutsch zum Lesen. Ich ging gutbegleitet durch die Basilika. Die Kuppel hat mir den Atem geraubt: so unglaublich schön mit handwerklicher Kunst gemacht. Für mich war das überwältigend, was Menschen so bauen können. Alle Kontrollen klappten dank der Tickets auf dem Handy mühelos, sodass ich mich leicht und frei auf die Kunst einlassen würde. Der Preis ist nicht günstig. Aber man bekommt auch viel, auch in mehreren Sprachen. Leider weiß ich nicht mehr, in welchen genau.
