Getting started

Begin your journey by exchanging your mobile ticket for entry passes at the designated counter within the Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve. Once you have your tickets, you’re free to chart your own walking route between the Maiden Tower, Palace of the Shirvanshahs, Numismatics Museum, and Museum of Azerbaijani Miniature Art. Each site operates daily from 10am to 7pm, so you can visit in any order within your chosen validity period.

What to expect

Maiden Tower

This ancient stone tower is Baku’s oldest surviving structure, with origins tracing back to the 6th–7th century BC and completion in the 12th century AD.

Climb eight floors via a narrow spiral staircase inside 28 meters of stonework, with walls up to 5 meters thick, and experience the unique interior that once served as a defensive fortification.

Entry is included with your pass, allowing you to explore the tower’s museum exhibits and enjoy panoramic views from the top.

Palace of the Shirvanshahs

A 15th-century royal complex built from golden limestone, the palace was the political and cultural heart of the Shirvanshah dynasty.

Walk through the main palace building, the Divankhana courtroom, the royal mausoleum, a mosque, a bathhouse, and underground water reservoirs, each offering a glimpse into Azerbaijan’s royal past.

Your pass provides access to all areas open to the public within the palace grounds.

Numismatics Museum

Located inside the 12th-century Ashur Mosque, this museum traces the history of currency and trade in Azerbaijan.

View collections of coins and currency spanning multiple eras, highlighting the region’s role in international commerce.

Admission is included, so you can explore the exhibits at your own pace.

Museum of Azerbaijani Miniature Art

Set within the 14th-century Molla Ahmad Mosque, this museum is dedicated to the intricate tradition of Azerbaijani miniature painting.

What to bring

Wear sturdy, comfortable footwear as you will be climbing 8 floors via a narrow stone spiral staircase in the Maiden Tower and walking on uneven stone paths and stairs at the Palace of the Shirvanshahs.

Bring a light jacket if visiting the Maiden Tower in the evening, as the tower is unheated.

Choose modest attire, especially when visiting the mosque and mausoleum sections of the Palace of the Shirvanshahs.

What's not allowed

Tripods are not permitted inside the Maiden Tower, and drones require prior authorization but are generally not allowed.

Flash photography is prohibited at the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and may be restricted at the Maiden Tower; follow posted signage for guidance.

Visitors are not allowed to touch exhibits or architectural surfaces at the Palace of the Shirvanshahs.

Accessibility

The Maiden Tower is not wheelchair accessible beyond the ground floor, as the upper 7 floors are only reachable via a narrow spiral staircase with no elevator or alternate route; visitors with mobility limitations should expect to experience the ground level only.

The Palace of the Shirvanshahs offers moderate accessibility, with main courtyards and the primary palace building navigable, but some sections have uneven stone surfaces and steps that are difficult for wheelchair users; there is no wheelchair or mobility scooter rental on-site.

Accessibility details for the Numismatics Museum and the Museum of Azerbaijani Miniature Art are not confirmed; visitors should be prepared for possible steps or uneven surfaces.

All four included sites—Maiden Tower, Palace of the Shirvanshahs, Numismatics Museum, and Museum of Azerbaijani Miniature Art—are open daily from 10am to 7pm, making it possible to visit all in a single day if desired.

The locations are spread across Baku Old City: Maiden Tower (Neftchilar Avenue), Palace of the Shirvanshahs (1st Gasr Lane), Numismatics Museum (Asef Zeynally Street), and Miniature Art Museum (Sabir Street); plan your walking route accordingly, as there is no central check-in point.

Visiting the Maiden Tower requires climbing 8 floors via a narrow spiral staircase, and there are no restrooms inside; the nearest facilities are in the surrounding Old City.

The Palace of the Shirvanshahs is the largest site, with multiple buildings and 26 rooms; allow 1–2 hours for your visit.

This is a mobile ticket that must be exchanged for entry tickets at the designated redemption point; it cannot be scanned directly at each site.

The Underground Hammam and Tahir Salahov's House-Museum are not included in this pass and require separate tickets.

Transportation to, from, or between sites within the Old City is not included, and there are no guided tours or audio guides provided at the included museums.
