The Secrets of Umami
Japanese cuisine has a special place in hearts across the world! The depth of carefully brewed stocks, delicate meats, and fresh vegetables come together to create the perfect harmony of flavors. This is your chance to join a culinary class and learn how to prepare dishes like ramen and gyoza with a small group at the chef's apartment for a personalized experience. After arriving at the chef's home, put on your aprons to prepare an authentic Japanese meal.
Homecooked Japanese Cuisine
The chef, fluent in English, will teach you how to cook the soup base, or dashi, the foundation of Japanese dishes, the importance of umami, and how to create it. Prepare a steaming hot bowl of ramen, complete with a jammy egg, fragrant broth, chewy noodles, fishcake, and juicy meat! Next, make the gyoza filling and learn how to fold them delicately along the edge. Finish cooking the ramen and gyoza and a side dish using seasonal ingredients, and learn about the use of miso, soy sauce, and mirin (sweet sake). After a day of fun-filled toil, sit down with your group and the chef to enjoy the delicious meal you have prepared. Take home a copy of the recipes of the food you made in your Japanese cooking class.
