The card is valid pretty much everywhere in Tokyo like on all JR East trains, and bus lines, and for making cashless purchases at make purchases inside trains, vending machines, a few convenience stores, and selected restaurants!
Seamless Activation
Make your life easier with a Suica IC Card by just tapping your card on the reader when you're shopping and using it on trains, vending machines, rent coin lockers, convenience stores, and restaurants. If you're taking a train, simply tap your Suica IC Card on the ticket gate reader, and it'll calculate your fare and deduct it from your card automatically. You'll need to add more at an Automatic Ticket Vending Machine or Fare Adjustment Machine with the Suica logo. Just remember, you can only use cash (Japanese Yen) to top up your card, not credit or debit cards. Your Suica IC Card, preloaded with JPY 1,500, can be further topped up at any Suica IC Card redemption station. Thus, ensuring that your travelling and shopping experience in Tokyo is a hassle-free one.
The Suica IC Card isn't just limited to one place, it can also be used in Sendai, Niigata, Hokkaido, Tokai, West Japan, and Kyushu areas for certain transportation systems. The card has an expiration date of 10 years.

To top-up your Suica IC Card, visit any Automatic Ticket Vending Machine and Fare Adjustment Machine with a Suica logo. Only cash (JPY) can be used to top up the card. Credit/Debit cards cannot be used.

In case you need to return the card, please go to the service counter in JR East Japan stations. Travelers may receive a deposit of JPY500 when returning the card, but a handling fee of JPY220 will be charged.
