Bologna’s nickname ‘La Dotta’ (meaning the Learned) perfectly encapsulates its history as one of the important centres of learning during the Middle Ages. On this two-hour-long guided tour, visit the University of Bologna, which is a popular attraction among tourists. Standing tall since 1088, it proudly holds the title of being the oldest university in Europe and counts writers like Dante and Petrarch among its famous alumni. Not far away is the Palazzo Orlandini, the birthplace of Nobel prize-winning inventor Guglielmo Marconi. The tour guide will also enlighten you about the significance of the Tombs of Glossators, Monumento a Luigi Galvani, and Archiginnasio di Bologna.
Following this, you will arrive at the Gothic architecture of the Palazzo Della Mercanzia, which is now the seat of the Chamber of Commerce. An exciting fact about the palazzo is that original recipes of classic delicacies like Bolognese sauce and Bolognese green lasagna, which have found admirers all over the world, can be found inside this building.
