Sergei Polunin, the ’bad boy James Dean’ of ballet is now performing at the West End again after his meteoric rise in the movie industry. Why Watch Sergei Polunin
Why Watch Sergei Polunin
Polunin is widely regarded as the miracle child for becoming the youngest principal dancer to perform at the Royal Ballet in London. Over the first decade of the 21st century, he won innumerable gold medals at various international ballet competitions. After a long break, he eventually returned to dancing after a clip of his dance to the tune of Hozier’s Take me to Church went viral. The documentary feature film ‘Dancer’ follows Polunin’s intriguing journey as a prodigy, rebel, and eventually a multifaceted artist with a passion to collaborate with dancers and composers around the world. Following his success in movies such as The Orient Express, Red Sparrow, and The White Crow, Polunin is back with an incredibly talented troupe of dancers to charm the audience at the London Palladium.
The Show
The show features some of the finest dancers from various renowned dance companies around the world. Polunin joins the performance in several sections and sets the stage aflame with his flawless dancing. As with many of his performances, Polunin draws from his troubled childhood and teenage years to paint a picture of gradual ascent from the early struggles. Although the style of his performance is distinctly his own, occasional flashes of Polunin’s classical brilliance from his early years are evident at several instances. This is an excellent show for seasoned ballet lovers and people looking for an introduction to dance alike. Don’t miss this masterpiece at the London Palladium this summer!
