On this Greek holiday, you will witness the crowning jewels of the Ionian Sea – the islands of Paxos and Antipaxos, situated close to the southern coast of Corfu. Set sail on smooth waters, along Corfu’s resort-studded coastline and past glorious vistas of olive and cypress trees as you head to Paxos. Along the way, you will see the Kanoni peninsula, the Palace of Mon Repos (birthplace of Prince Phillip), the cape of Asprokavos, as well as Lakka village.
According to legend, Paxos was formed from the blow of Poseidon’s trident in his attempt to sever the tip of Corfu in order to create an idyllic retreat for his love Amphitrite. Enjoy the impressive rocky shoreline and unique white sandy beaches before slipping into one of the “blue caves.” These blue caves with their clear azure waters also happen to be the natural habitat of the Mediterranean monk seal. After exploring the caves, you will make your way to Antipaxos whose sandy blue water coves rival the Caribbean. Here, you will swim in the crystal clear waters of Paradise Beach (Voutoumi) before returning to Paxos from the east side. Get a glimpse of the small islands of Skaltsonis, Mongonisi, Panagia, and Agios Nikolaos before docking at the port of Gaios, a picturesque village with narrow winding streets, storybook taverns, and an assortment of little shops. Enjoy free time to wander around, shop, grab lunch, or do whatever it is that catches your fancy.
